04/03/2017 RESOLUTION NO. 15574 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY DECLARING BUILDINGS AT 112-120 VERA AVENUE TO BE A PUBLIC NUISANCE AND DIRECTING RECONSTRUCTION AND REPAIR OR RAZING AND REMOVAL THEREOF WHEREAS, the Building Inspector of this City has determined that the buildings located at 112-120 Vera Avenue are a public nuisance as defined by Section 9.5 of the Redwood City Code because the building has become manifestly unsafe for the purpose for which it is being used; the building exists and is maintained in violation of specific requirements and prohibitions applicable to such building regulations of the City; the building, because of dilapidation, deterioration and decay has been determined to be unfit for human habitation and is unsanitary; the buildings are in such a condition as to constitute a public nuisance; and WHEREAS, the Fire Marshal of this City has determined that the buildings located at 112-120 Vera Avenue are a public nuisance as defined by Section 9.5 of the Redwood City Code because the buildings, because of their dilapidated condition, inadequate exists, and other causes constitute a fire hazard; and WHEREAS, the Police Department of this City has determined that the buildings located at 112-120 Vera Avenue are a public nuisance as defined by Section 9.5 of the Redwood City Code because the buildings have become so dilapidated or deteriorated as to become a harbor for vagrants, criminals or immoral persons; and WHEREAS, the Building Inspector has given notice to the owner of the buildings located at 112-120 Vera Avenue, as evidenced by Exhibit A (Notice to Abate Nuisance), to appear before this City Council to show cause, if any, why such building should not be declared to be a public nuisance and abated in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 9 of the Redwood City Code; and WHEREAS, the Affidavit of Posting of the Notice to Abate Nuisance is attached hereto and marked Exhibit B and an Affidavit of Mailing the Notice to Abate is attached hereto and marked Exhibit C; and WHEREAS, this Council has received extensive evidence that the buildings located at 112-120 Vera Avenue have become dilapidated and have numerous Building, Fire and other Code violations and thus constitute a public nuisance.
