REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager April 24, 2017 SUBJECT Establish Dates for City Council Consideration of the Fiscal Year 2017-18 Budget RECOMMENDATION Establish, by motion, June 5, 2017 as the date on which the City Manager shall submit a proposed budget to the City Council and approve, by motion, the dates for City Council action on the budget as set forth in this staff report BACKGROUND Sections 51 and 51.5 of the Redwood City Charter require that the City Council, by motion, establish the date of the budget submission by the City Manager, and, by resolution, the date for budget public hearing and budget adoption. ANALYSIS A resolution setting the public hearing and the date for the budget adoption will be submitted to Council in early June. The purpose of this action is to formalize Council approval of the following dates upon which budget-related actions will occur: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)/ HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) Public Hearing April 24, 2017 Capital Improvement Program Study Session May 8, 2017 Budget Submitted to Council Monday, June 5, 2017 City Council Budget Study Session Monday, June 12, 2017 Budget Adoption and Public Hearing Monday, June 26, 2017 ALTERNATIVES The City Charter requires that the Council, by motion, establish a date upon which the ";City Manager shall submit to the Council a proposed budget;" The dates provided in this report are the dates recommended by the City Manager at the budget study session in February 27, 2017, and may be changed at Council's discretion. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact associated with approving the dates for budget related action.
