REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />May 8, 2017 <br />SUBJECT <br />Presentation by Dr. Jon Haveman, Marin Economic Consulting, on "The State of <br />Redwood City, California: Indicators and Revenue Forecasts." <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Receive a presentation on "The State of Redwood City, California: Indicators and <br />Revenue Forecasts." <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />In February 2017, the City engaged Marin Economic Consulting to prepare a report on <br />the current economic conditions of the City, and forecast key statistics and revenue <br />drivers over the next few years. The report is intended to assist the City Council and <br />staff with future planning and budgeting. <br /> <br />Jon Haveman is a principal with Marin Economic Consulting and is widely considered to <br />be one of California’s leading experts on regional economies and local economic <br />development. Prior to joining the Marin Consulting, Dr. Haveman was the Chief <br />Economist at the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, a founding principal at Beacon <br />Economics, and the Director of the Economy Program at the Public Policy Institute of <br />California. He has been a Senior Economist with the President's Council of Economic <br />Advisers and an Economist with the Federal Trade Commission, and he has held a <br />faculty position in the Business School at Purdue University. Dr. Haveman holds a <br />Ph.D. and Master of Science in Economics from The University of Michigan and a <br />Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Wisconsin. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />No action. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />None. <br /> <br />ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW <br />This activity is not a project under CEQA as defined in CEQA Guidelines, section <br />15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or a reasonably <br />foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment. <br /> <br /> <br />
