REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />May 8, 2017 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />City Council appointment to the the Senior Affairs Commission and the Complete <br />Streets Advisory Committee <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By roll call vote make appointments to fill 1) one unexpired seat on the Senior Affairs <br />Commission that expires May 31, 2020; and, 2) two new seats on the Complete Streets <br />Advisory Committee (recently created by Resolution No. 15563) expiring May 31, 2019 <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Due to vacancies in current Boards, Commissions and Committees (BCCs) the City <br />Council began a recruitment process (Phase II) to fill seats that were vacant. These <br />vacancies were due to an unfilled seat on the Senior Affairs Commission after one <br />member resigned and for the Complete Streets Advisory Committee after two new seats <br />were added by the passage of Resolution No. 15563. <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />City staff began recruitment for these positions on March 1, 2017 and the outreach <br />period ran through April 5, 2017. The usual methods of reaching out to the community <br />were used including press releases, a Mayor’s video, the NextDoor application, <br />Facebook and Twitter. In addition, the pre-Council meeting scroll, which is televised two <br />hours in advance of the meeting, was utilized to publicize these vacancies. In addition, <br />prior applicants on file were also contacted. <br /> <br />The applicants for Council consideration are as follows: <br /> <br />Applicants for the Senior Affairs Commission for a seat that expires on May 31, 2020: <br />· Carey Mitchell <br />· Ruth Louise Rogers Silverman <br />Both applicants to the Senior Affairs Commission were interviewed on April 24, 2017. <br /> <br />Applicants for the Complete Streets Advisory Committee (CSAC) for seats that expire <br />on May 31, 2019 are: <br /> <br />7.A. - Page 1
