Irrigation shall be installed to ensure newly planted trees receive appropriate watering for the species. Newly planted trees shall also be protected from deer browse. Replacement trees shall be monitored for at least five years and shall be re -planted if they die. The City will integrate the replacement trees into the project's final landscape plan. Should the landscape plan not be able to accommodate all of the required mitigation trees without over -crowding the site, the City shall provide the remaining number of mitigation trees to the Redwood City Tree Bank Fund for planting in other parts of the City. The mitigation trees shall be planted within 12 months of project completion, in a suitable site where long-term survival is likely. The mitigation trees shall be monitored for a five-year period and shall be re- planted if they die. Impact: BIO -5: The proposed project could damage trees to be retained during project construction. Mitigation: BIO -5: The following tree protection measures shall be included in the project in order to protect trees (including mature trees) to be retained during construction: • Damage to any tree during construction shall be reported to the City's Landscape Architect, and project contractors shall treat the tree for damage in the manner specified by the City's Landscape Architect. • No construction equipment, vehicles or materials shall be stored, or parked within the tree dripline. • Cutting and filling around the base of trees shall be done only after consultation with the City Landscape Architect and then only to the extent authorized by the City Landscape Architect. • No waste construction materials or wastewater shall be dumped on the ground between the dripline and the base of the tree or uphill from any tree where certain substances might reach the roots through a leaching process. • Barricades shall be constructed around the trunks of trees as specified by the City Landscape Architect to prevent injury to trees making them susceptible to disease causing organisms. • The City Landscape Architect shall inspect the perimeter of the area of ground disturbance and pipeline alignments within the site to determine whether construction could damage the roots of retained trees. The Landscape Architect shall make appropriate recommendations to ensure the roots of retained trees are not significantly damaged. Impact: 13I0-6: Project construction could result in the spread of invasive, non-native French broom or other invasive plants on the site. Mitigation: 13I0-6: French broom (Genista monspessulana) stands or other invasive plants on the site shall be removed from the site outside of the blooming period (April through June for French broom) and removed plants shall be bagged or placed in a covered container (dumpster or covered truck) and disposed of at a landfill.
