<br /> CGM:bc:7/3l/79 <br />./ ,- <br />f ~ "- <br /> ORIGINAL <br /> 1 79 (L AUG 20 1979 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 1796 <br /> <br /> --------- - - <br />ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23.7 OF THE CODE OF THE <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, RELATING TO ELIGIBILITY LISTS <br />FOR THE POSITION OF POLICE OFFICER <br />THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. Section 23.7 of the Code of the City of Redwood <br />City is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> "Section 23.7. Persons appointed to the competitive <br />service shall be selected from applicants on eligible lists <br />and applicants shall be placed on such eligible lists in <br />order of their relative merit as determined by competitive <br />examinations. Appointments to positions in the competitive <br />service shall be made from the first three ( 3) applicants <br />on the eligible lists (other than for appointments to the <br />position of police officer) who are ready and willing to <br />accept the position offered. Notwithstanding the foregoing, <br />any person who has successfully completed a training program <br />established by the city to provide affirmatively equal <br />employment opportunities for members of races, nationalities, <br />ethnic or cultural groups, who have been denied historically <br />in the United States such opportunities because of such race, <br />nationality, or ethnic or cultural background, shall be <br />considered for appointment together with the first three <br />(3) applicants on any eligible list (or with the applicants <br />on the eligibility list for the position of police officer, <br />as the case may be) , established for the classification for <br />which such person had been in training.
