WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS - None <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />STUDY SESSION <br />9. Discussion of financial strategies for the City of <br />Redwood City <br />Discussion began at 8:10 p.m. with City Manager Smith giving summary of <br />February 11, 1989 mid -year budget review, current working proposals and <br />directions, and future financial projections. <br />Council suggested staff give specific proposals to address projected <br />shortfall ; considered appointing a committee of citizens and employees to <br />bring concerns and solutions to Council; expressed opposing views concerning <br />layoffs versus attrition of staff; agreed to put emphasis on expenditure <br />reduction rather than revenue enhancement; asked for neighborhood meetings to <br />generate participation; advised public that with city cutbacks will come <br />service reduction; and thanked staff for presenting the situation in a clear <br />and timely manner. <br />Nita Spangler, 978 Edgewood Road, Redwood City asked Council to look to <br />experienced people in Redwood city who can help in cost reduction plans, <br />agreed with Council regarding committee and urged continued dialogue. <br />CONSENSUS: Mayor Greenalch determined it to be the consensus of the Council <br />to ask City management team and all employees for specific options to assist <br />Council in bringing expenditures in line with revenues, to encourage everyone <br />to look at every option and to keep process moving ahead. <br />City Manager to coordinate efforts and to set date for next study session <br />MEMO 3/14/89 <br />-------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- - - - - -- <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />M /S: Bury /LaBerge to adjourn to Executive Session to discuss labor relations and <br />personnel and then reconvene solely to adjourn. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote and council adjourned at 9:42 p.m. <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION <br />City Council reconvened at 9:50 p.m. for the purpose of discussing labor <br />relations and personnel matters. <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />After motion duly made, seconded and carried the City Council adjourned at <br />10:05 p.m. G <br />Arty C.
