CULTURAL RESOURCES. Would the project: a) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of a historical resource as defined in §15064.5? b) Cause a substantial adverse change in the signifi- cance of an archaeological resource pursuant to §15064.5? c) Directly or indirectly destroy a unique paleontologi- cal resource or site or unique geologic feature? d) Disturb any human remains, including those interred outside of formal cemeteries? a) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of a historical resource as defined in Section 15064.5? (Less-Than-Significant Impact) The project site is currently developed with an existing one-story warehouse structure built in the 1950s and an associated surface parking lot. The project site is not within a historic district24 and the existing building is not considered to be a cultural resource for the purposes of CEQA. Therefore, proposed exterior and interior renovations to the existing building, including the addition of a partial second story, to accommodate the proposed new school use would not alter the significance of a historical resource as defined in Section 15064.5. b) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of an archaeological resource pursuant to Section 15064.5? (Potentially Significant Unless Mitigation Incorporated) The proposed project consists of exterior and interior renovations to the existing building and redevel- opment of the existing surface parking lot. The depth of excavation would be minimal, at approxi- mately 1 foot below the ground surface to allow for installation of new pavements and utilities. Generally, Native American-related archaeological resources within Redwood City have been found in areas near the San Francisco Bay, on inland ridges, midslope benches, and in valleys near intermit- tent and perennial watercourses;25 none of these features are located within or in the immediate vicinity of the site (the nearest water course is located approximately 0.5 miles from the site). The site itself is highly disturbed due to previous development and the potential for surface and subsurface archaeological deposits to be present at the project site is considered to be low.
