LSA ASSOCIATES, INC.
SEPTEMBER 2016
ROCKETSHIP REDWOOD CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT
INITIAL STUDY/ MITIGATED NEGATIVE DECLARATION

P:\RWC1401B Rocketship School\PRODUCTS\IS-MND\Public\Rocketship Public Review 09-29-16.docx (09/29/16) PUBLIC REVIEW DRAFT 50
Potentially
Significant
Impact
Potentially
Significant
Unless
Mitigation
Incorporated
Less Than
Significant
Impact
No
Impact
VIII. HAZARDS AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS.
Would the project:

d) Be located on a site which is included on a list of
hazardous materials sites compiled pursuant to
Government Code Section 65962.5 and, as a result,
would it create a significant hazard to the public or
the environment?

e) For a project located within an airport land use plan
or, where such a plan has not been adopted, within 2
miles of a public airport or public use airport, would
the project result in a safety hazard for people
residing or working in the project area?

f) For a project located within the vicinity of a private
airstrip, would the project result in a safety hazard for
people residing or working in the project area?

g) Impair implementation of or physically interfere with
an adopted emergency response plan or emergency
evacuation plan?

h) Expose people or structures to a significant risk of
loss, injury or death involving wildland fires,
including where wildlands are adjacent to urbanized
areas or where residences are intermixed with
wildlands?

This analysis considers potential environmental impacts that could occur with implementation of the
proposed project, including those related to construction and operation of a sub-slab depressurization
system (SSDS) designed to address the potential presence of VOCs inside the project site structure; no
hazards impacts related to construction or operation of the SSDS were identified.

a) Create a significant hazard to the public or the environment through the routine transport, use,
or disposal of hazardous materials? (Less-Than-Significant Impact)

The proposed charter school would likely store a minor amount of hazardous materials associated
with cleaning compounds and other maintenance elements on the project site, as well as possible
science course-related chemicals. Handling, storage, and use of these hazardous materials and
disposal of any hazardous wastes would be required to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Because of the small quantities involved and the regulatory requirements, the risk of upset and
accidental conditions involving the release of hazardous materials into the environment would be less
than significant.

ATTY/RESO.0032/PC RESO APPROVING CEQA - 860 CHARTER ST.
