Special report by Jack Anthony, Senior Affairs Commission, speaking on issues <br />important to our senior citizens <br />Jack Anthony, Senior Affairs Commission Member, Commission on Aging, and <br />Executive Director for the Area Agency on Aging spoke on issues of well <br />being of seniors and introduced Mrs. Rachel Ralston who handles discount buying <br />and educational programs and June Cichowicz, Director of the Area Agency on <br />Aging, who turns difficult senior problems into an adventure. The Commission on <br />Aging will be celebrating their 20th anniversary. Mr. Anthony handed out a <br />nomination information guide for the Seniors of Significance Award in San Mateo <br />County, the deadline for submitting forms is Friday, October 20, 1989. <br />----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />4. PUBLIC HEARING - General Plan (to be taken out of order after the recess to <br />conduct Redevelopment Agency business.) <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br />a. Mr. Phillip Wanq, #5 Miller Court, Redwood City, Woodside Terrace Kiwanis <br />Club, thanked Council for opportunity to sponsor a carnival on July 4th and <br />asked Council for the opportunity to have the carnival during the July 4th <br />celebration next year. Mr. Wong asked Mayor's permission to clarify letter of <br />PCA. Mayor referred subject to City Manager and stated both organizations <br />contributed to success of carnival. <br />MEMO 10/10/89 <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - - - - -- <br />MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />a. Council congratulated San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's on their pennant <br />championships. <br />b. Vice Mayor LaBerge announced the Redwood City Gala at the Fox Theatre is <br />December 1, 1989 for the production of "Annie "; she represented Redwood City at <br />a Conference "Mixing the Arts and Business" and emphasized the importance of the <br />arts to the economic development of the community. <br />c. Mayor Greenalch, on behalf of the Council, thanked Charles Jany, Mike Church, <br />Joel Patterson, Ben Pawloski, and other staff members for the successful <br />painting of the historic church project. <br />d. Mayor Greenalch reminded everyone about meeting on Emerald Lake Area Water rates <br />tomorrow (10- 10 -89) at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Greenalch referred to the Brown Act and <br />stated that it was in the legal best interest of the City to have no more than 3 <br />Councilmembers at the meeting.
