<br /> ARTICLE 17 <br /> HOURS OF WORK <br /> The regular workweek shall be forty (40) hours per week. The regular workweek for Battalion <br /> Chief on a shift schedule shall be fifty-six (56) hours per week. <br /> ARTICLE 18 <br /> LEA VE PROVISIONS <br /> 18.1 Sick Leave <br /> 18.1.1 Sick leave with pay shall be granted to all regular employees except as <br /> hereinafter provided, at the rate of one (1) working day for each full calendar <br /> month of service. Upon satisfactory completion of six (6) months of the <br /> probationary period, an employee shall be credited with six (6) days sick leave <br /> and shall accumulate sick leave thereafter at the rate of one (1) day for each <br /> calendar month of service. Battalion Chiefs who work a fifty-six (56) hour <br /> work week shall accrue sick leave at the rate of twenty-four (24) hours per <br /> month. Battalion Chiefs who work a forty (40) hour work week shall accrue <br /> sick leave at the rate of eight (8) hours a month. At retirement, Battalion Chiefs <br /> assigned to a forty (40) hour work week will have their accrued sick leave <br /> balance converted to a balance based on the fifty-six (56) hour rate and the <br /> retirement sick leave buyout will be paid using the fifty-six (56) hour rate of <br /> pay. <br /> Pursuant to Section 18.9, an employee may also request family and medical <br /> leave ifhe/she is unable to perfonn his/her job because of a serious health <br /> condition, or needs to care for a child, following birth or placement, or needs to <br /> care for a spouse, child or parent who is seriously ill. <br /> 18.1.2 Sick leave shall be defined as the non-job related absence from work due to <br /> illness, bodily injury, exposure to contagious disease, and caring of family <br /> members whose illness required the employee's care. <br /> 18.1.3 Unused sick leave may be accumulated to maximum sick leave credits of one- <br /> thousand two-hundred (1200) hours. For Battalion Chiefs who work a fifty-six <br /> (56) hour work week unused sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum sick <br /> leave credits of two-thousand four-hundred (2400) hours. <br /> 18.1.4 In the event an employee has accumulated the maximum sick leave credits of <br /> one-thousand two-hundred (1200) hours (2400 hours for Battalion Chiefs who <br /> work a fifty-six (56) hour work week) and the employee becomes so severely ill <br /> that he exhausts his/her sick leave, the Personnel Officer may, upon the written <br /> 20 <br /> ..
