The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote with Council Member Jordan voting no on <br /> Item C-11 and Council Member Leipzig absent. <br /> <br /> 4. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS - None <br /> <br /> 5. PUBLIC HEARINGS - None <br /> <br /> 6. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST - Council Member Ira announced his new Council <br /> business telephone mtmber is 780-7553. He also reported that the second meeting of the task <br /> force appointed by Mayor Howard to work with the schools had been held this evening. The <br /> task force includes Council Members Hartnett and Jordan and will expand to include the high <br /> school district, the community college district and other members of the community. <br /> <br /> Council Member Hartnett added that the subject should come back to Council for an update. <br /> MEMO 11/18/99 <br /> <br /> Council Member Jordan added that prior to next steps, the community should be involved in the <br /> process. Additionally, she mentioned a desire for the City to join with Palo Alto and Menlo Park <br /> in seeking a variance to deviate from Cai Trans' restrictive tree planting regulations. <br /> MEMO 11/18/99 <br /> <br /> Mayor Howard announced and invited the community to downtown on Saturday, November 20 <br /> from 9:00 to 12:00 noon at the Way To Go building, 2107 Broadway, for an idea exchange. The <br />--- downtown cinema and where downtown should go will be subjects of discussion. That Saturday <br /> is also the last day of the Farmers' Market. <br /> <br /> Council Member Ira congratulated Council Member Claire on his reelection and spoke about a <br /> mailer issued as a part of the election. He commended Council Member Claire on his conduct <br /> following the election. <br /> <br /> Council Member Claire thanked Council Member Ira and referred to a flyer aimed at Council <br /> Member Leipzig as being in poor taste. <br /> <br /> 7. STAFF REPORTS <br /> <br /> A. Approve Plans/Award Bid - Winslow; <br /> <br /> Traffic Engineer Haygood explained the reconfiguration of Winslow Street from the <br /> current 4-lane section to a 2-lane section with a center left-turn lane. The section <br /> encompasses the area between Broadway and just past Middlefield Road intersections. <br /> <br /> Council comments included concern about traffic on Middlefield Road just prior to <br /> Jefferson covering up the left turn mar. kef oI!,~e street and suggested a sign be installed. A <br /> question of whether Cal Train would be installing a fence along the train tracks.
