Associated improvements include new landscaping and playground areas and modifications
to existing site access, circulation and parking. The proposed school would have a maximum
enrollment of 480 students when it is fully operational.
The proposed project also includes installation and operation of an active sub-slab depressurization
system to eliminate the exposure pathway between contaminated soil vapors and indoor air sensitive
receptors and inhibit soil gases from flowing into the building, thereby ensuring that indoor air
concentrations of VOCs related to the underlying subsurface conditions are reduced to an acceptable
level. Operation of this system would be conducted under DTSC oversight.
Findings: The Initial Study prepared by the City was undertaken for the purpose of deciding whether
the project may have a significant effect on the environment. On the basis of the Initial Study,City
staff has concluded that the project will not have a significant effect on the environment and, therefore,
has prepared a Mitigated Negative Declaration. The project site is not on a list of hazardous waste sites
compiled pursuant to Government Code Section 65962.5.
Public Review: Copies of the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration are on file and available
for review at the City of Redwood City, 1017 Middlefield Road,Redwood City,CA 94065.
Written comments will be accepted from September 30,2016 to November 1,2016.
