ROCKETSHIP REDWOOD CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT SEPTEMBER 2016 INITIAL STUDY/MITIGATED NEGATIVE DECLARATION The project site is located in an urban area and is not located within or near any riparian habitat or other sensitive natural community.22 Therefore,the proposed project would not result in adverse effects on a riparian habitat or other sensitive natural community. c) Have a substantial adverse effect on federally protected wetlands as defined by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act(including, but not limited to, marsh, vernal pool, coastal, etc) through direct removal,filling, hydrological interruption, or other means?(No Impact) The project site does not support any federally protected wetlands.2' Therefore,no impact to federally protected wetlands would occur as a result of the proposed project. d) Interfere substantially with the movement of any native resident or migratory fish or wildlife species or with established native resident or migratory wildlife corridors, or impede the use of native wildlife nursery sites?(No Impact) The project site is not located within a migratory wildlife movement corridor. Furthermore,most of the species that likely use the site are"generalists"that are adept at moving through urban landscapes. There are no trees on the project site and vegetation is limited to a small band of shrubs located between the Charter Street sidewalk and the northern building facade. Although this vegetation would be removed and replaced with new landscaping,it is unlikely that these small shrubs provide nesting habitat. Therefore,the proposed project would not interfere with the movement of any native or migratory species or impede the use of native wildlife nursery sites. e) Conflict with any local policies or ordinances protecting biological resources, such as a tree preservation policy or ordinance? (No Impact) There are no existing trees located on the project site. Approximately 12 new trees would be planted on the site,and all trees would be a minimum of 24-inch box size. Therefore,the proposed project would not conflict with any local policies or ordinances such as a tree preservation ordinance. f) Conflict with the provisions of an adopted Habitat Conservation Plan,Natural Community Conservation Plan or other approved local, regional, or State habitat conservation plan? (No Impact) The project site is not located within the boundaries of any adopted conservation plans.
