Program Review (continued) <br />Mr. Smith said that supplemental reports will be presented by those department <br />heads which have prepared them. (See Supplemental Budget Report) <br />Public Safety - Police Chief Guardi no presented his request for ten <br />additional sworn police officers which was denied by the City Manager. <br />M /S: Stangel /Bury to increase the number of Police Department sworn <br />personnel by four additional persons. <br />Discussion followed concerning the possible source of funds for the <br />positions and the need for discussion on the subject. <br />The motion failed on the following r o l l call vote: <br />Ayes: Councilmen Bury, Stangel and Mayor Greenalch <br />Noes: Councilmen Buchan, Claire, Murray and Vice Mayor LaBerge <br />CONSE NS US : Mayor Greenalch determined it is the consensus of Council to <br />conduct a future study session on the need for additional police officers. <br />MEMO 6/27/88 <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />Mayor Greenalch requested Council return to consideration of the Hunan <br />Services Program (pp. 4 -6, Annual Budget 1988 -90) <br />Hunan services <br />CONSENSUS: Mayor Greenalch determined it was the consensus of Council to <br />approve the Human Services Budget (See above individual approval of assistance <br />to agencies) <br />Pro gram Review (continued) <br />Community Development Department (pp. 19 -29) <br />In response to question, staff said that the Community Promotion budget <br />includes the following: <br />San Mateo County Convention & Visitors Bureau 30,000 <br />Redwood City Chamber of Commerce 30,000 <br />Peninsula Celebration Association 8,000 <br />Redwood Shores Regatta 500 <br />Community Pride 900 <br />Nita Spanqler, 970 Edgewood Road, suggested reports on use of the funds by <br />the Bureau and the Chamber be requested. <br />City Manager Smith advised that the City expenditures for promotion with <br />the Bureau and the Chamber involve contracts which are monitored and that <br />regular reports are received from both agencies. <br />Councilman Bury stated for the record that he is a board member of the <br />Bureau and i s abst ai ni ng f rom parti ci pati on i n any acti on rel ati ng to that <br />agency. <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 48 Budget .
