Petitioner alos believes that a condition should be inserted in the said franchise re- quiring the successful pzrchaser thereof to not only pay the amount Which shall be bid for said franchise,and the necessary expenses to be connected with the advertising of said franchise for sale,but also the expense which will attend the filling in of Center street necessary to permit the laying of said rail -road tracks thereon. Petitioner respectfully represents that the construction of a street rail -road along, across and over the streets, roads, avenues and high -ways of said Town of Redwood Citytwill prove beneficial to the said Town and the residents thereof ,and will in the opinion of petitioner promote the welfare and prosperity of the Town and its residents. In view of the intention to extend the line of this street rail -road to the Woodside countrY,it is to be expected that the possibilities of transportation that Will be afford- ed to people will prove an inducement to the rapid sale of territory in Woodside In small tracts,thereby adding to the population of the County,and necessarily fostering and improv_ Ing business conditions In Redwood City. Petitioner further desires to state that if this franchise is sold to him,it is pro- posed to assign same to a Corporation not yet formed or existing,but which will be created for the purpose of building said rail -road through said Town and to said Woodside. That said proposed Corporation iA intended to be a popular one,and that all people desiring to purchase stock therein may do Boland have full and free voice in all matters connected therewith. As a financial venture the petitioner does not believe the business of said proposed rail -road will in the immediate future provoke heavy results,but If the people generally interested in the Welfare of Redwood City and the Woodside country will take part accord- ing to their means in the construction and ownership of said rail-road,they will be re- M'unerated in the increased values of their property,and the new life which will be infused Into the business cOmmunity,and unquestionably the futurewill discover that the road will bring in fair returns upon the money invested. Your petitioner therefore respectfully requests that this petition and application be filed by Your order and direction,and that thereupon your Honorable Board shall In the ex- ercise of Your discretion make the necessary order directing the proper advertisement of notice of this appllcation,and of your intention to grant the same, and that said adver- tisement be published In one or more papers published in said Town of Redwood City,as.re- Quired by the provisions of the statute hereinbefore referred to,and that said advertise- 4ent state that bids for the sale of said franchise will be received at a time and place to be therein ststed,and that said franchise will be awarded and sold to the highest bid- der as required by daid statute.
