<br />fixtures must be vented, by not smaller
<br />than a two inch vertical vent pipe.
<br />Six .similar fixtures by not smaller
<br />than a two and one-half inch vertical
<br />vent pipe.
<br />Single one and one-half Inch traps must
<br />be vented by a one and one-half inch
<br />vent pipe when the vent does not ex-
<br />ceed twenty-five feet; when it is in ex-
<br />cess of twenty-five feet, the entire
<br />main vent shall be of two Inch Pipe.
<br />When one and one-half Inch horizontal
<br />branch vents are used on fixtures the.
<br />said branch vent shall not exceed five•
<br />feet,
<br />In the calculation, of the relation of
<br />basins, baths, and similar fixtures to-
<br />wards water closets, it shall be reck-
<br />oned that two basins or baths or simi-
<br />lar fixtures equal one water closet, and
<br />so on at that ratio. Two small fixtures
<br />may be vented by one and one-half
<br />Itch pipe.
<br />CONNECTING VENTS
<br />Section 24. 'Where vent p(pew
<br />branch into one another, and where
<br />they branch into the soil pipe, the,
<br />branch fitting must' be, at least three
<br />feet six inches from the floor line.
<br />TERMINATION OF VENTS
<br />SECTION 25, No vent pipe opening
<br />below the root of any building shall be -
<br />within 10 feet of any door or window,
<br />If within said distance it must be car-
<br />ried above said door or window and -
<br />above the main roof of building.
<br />NO CAPS OR COWLS
<br />SECTION 26. Every vertical soil,
<br />waste or vent pipe (unless othet'wise
<br />provided in this lordinance) must ex-
<br />tend, full bore, one foot above the roof
<br />Or coping and he continued to a point,
<br />at least 10 feet from any opening of
<br />the house or any, adjoining building.
<br />No caps o' cowls shall be affixed to
<br />the top of any ventilating pipe, though
<br />a strong wire basket may be used; in-
<br />tercepting traps must not be used.
<br />NO TRAPS AT FOOT OF STACK
<br />SECTION 27. There shall be no traps
<br />placed at the foot of vertical soil waste
<br />pipes.
<br />SLOP HOPPERS
<br />SECTION 28. Slop hoppers set upon
<br />a 'Wooden floor, must be connected to
<br />waste pipe with lead wiped onto a.
<br />brass ferrule and the same be caulked.
<br />All slop hoppers must be provided with
<br />a suitable trap of not less than two
<br />Inches in diameter. When hoppers ire
<br />set upon an outside porch and the drop
<br />does not exceed ten feet, they need not
<br />be vented; when more than ten feet
<br />a two Inch ,vent must be used. Bell'
<br />traps must not be used in any case, and
<br />no hopper shall be placed inside of any
<br />building or enclosed porch.
<br />SIZE OF TRAPS
<br />:SECTION 29. No fixture shall have a
<br />trap of a diameter of less than one and
<br />one-half Inches.

<br />SECTION 31. All house sewer, house.
<br />drain, Soil and waste and vent pipes
<br />and all drain pipes Inside and outside
<br />of it building, before being covered,
<br />must have all openings stopped, to be

<br />filled with water and allowed to stand
<br />until inspected.
<br />Notice must be given the plumbing[
<br />Inspector when the work is sufficiently
<br />advanced for first Inspection.
<br />When pipes have been Inspected and
<br />tested In sections, there shall be anoth-
<br />er Inspection and rtest made when con-
<br />nections are made with or to house -
<br />Sewer. Irrimedlately upon completion
<br />of the work, and before the building is,
<br />oceupied,,notleo must be given for fin-
<br />al Inspection and such Inspection must

<br />SECTION 36. Sinks In butcher
<br />shops, hotels, laundries and boarding
<br />houses shall be provided with a Sult-
<br />able grease trap of not less than five
<br />gallons In capacity. All carriage and
<br />garage wash (rooms connected •with
<br />sewer system must be. provided with
<br />Proper means of intercepting mud.
<br />SECTION 3G. Wooden sinks or wood-
<br />en stationary wash trays on the prem-
<br />ises of any residence are forbidden.
<br />VENTILATION OF ROOMS
<br />:SECTION 37, 'Each and every com-
<br />partment wherein a [cater closet or
<br />urinal is situated must be ventilated
<br />by means of a window having an
<br />area of not less than six (6) square
<br />feet opening directly to the external
<br />atmosphere, or by means of an air
<br />shaft having an area of at least four
<br />square feet, which shaft must continue
<br />of undiminished size to the roof and at
<br />this point its opening shall equal in
<br />area not less than that of the shaft.
<br />No air shaft or window ventilating
<br />either it water closet o• urinal compart-
<br />ment shall discharge into or venti-
<br />late any other compartment whatso-
<br />ever (this however shall not prevent
<br />the enlargement of airshafts to a size
<br />suitable for its duties, so as to venti-
<br />late a series of closets or urinals.
<br />WHEN A BUILDING IS MOVED
<br />SECTION 38. When a building is
<br />moved or when an addition or altera-
<br />tion is to be made and new fixtures
<br />are to be put in the addition, and old
<br />fixtures are to be altered and reset in
<br />the old portion of the building, then
<br />both the new fixtures put in and the
<br />illd plumbing in the building must be
<br />I a

<br />the water' test applied before being ac-
<br />cepted by the plumbing Inspector.
<br />SECTION' 47, Any person, firm or
<br />corporation who violates any of the
<br />provisions of this ordinance shall be
<br />deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and
<br />upon conviction thereof Shull be pun-
<br />Ishod by a fine not exceeding one hun-
<br />dred ($100) dollars Or by imprison-
<br />ment In the County Jail of the County
<br />of San ;[Mateo, State of California, not
<br />exceeding ninety (90) days, or by both
<br />such fine and imprisonment.
<br />SECTION 48. Ordinance No, 101 of
<br />the Tm0i of Redwood City and all oth-
<br />er ordinances or parts of ordinances
<br />In conflict with this ordinance are
<br />hereby repealed.
<br />SECTION 49. This ordinance shall
<br />be published once in the Redwood City
<br />Standard, a weekly newspaper, pub-
<br />lished, Printed and circulated In said
<br />ToNLn of Redwood City and shall take
<br />effept and be in force from and after
<br />thirty days after its passage.

<br />SECTION 39. 'When plumbing has
<br />been Inspected and the plumbing work
<br />has been condemned by the plumbing
<br />inspector, as being in an unsanitary
<br />Condition, notice shall be given ht
<br />writing to that effect, informing the
<br />agent or owner of said building what
<br />character of repairs or Improvements
<br />must he made and that any objection
<br />III the repairs or improvements
<br />ordered must be filed In
<br />the . office of the Clerk of
<br />the Town of Redwood City directed to
<br />the ,Board of Trustees of said Town
<br />within a period of five days, and if ob-
<br />jections are not so filed the repairs
<br />and improvements ordered must be
<br />node as directed. When objections are

<br />concrete walls; when necessary to con-
<br />ceal pipes of this class they must be

<br />SECTION 41. Work must be ready
<br />for inspection when notice Is sent to
<br />the Inspector. The failure on the part
<br />of a plumber to make application for
<br />first or final inspection or the violation
<br />of any of the provisions of this ordin-
<br />ance, in the constructing of any
<br />plumbing worst or pipe laying, and the
<br />failure on his part, to correct the fault)
<br />after notification, shall be deemed suf-i
<br />tcient cause to have his license ave -i
<br />pended for such length of time as the
<br />Board of Trustees of the Town of Red-
<br />wood City may deem proper. No plumb-
