<br />AN ORDINANCE REOULATINC PUB-
<br />LIC DANCES IN THE TOWN OF
<br />Ile. 243. REDWOOD CITY, COUNTY OF
<br />SAN iIATEO, STATE OF
<br />CALIFORNIA.
<br />The .Board of Trustees, of the Town
<br />of Redwood City, do ordain as follows,
<br />1 to -wit:
<br />'SECTION 1. It is hereby declared
<br />unlawful for any person, persons, firm,
<br />.co-partnbrship, society or corporation
<br />to give, manage, conduct, permit or
<br />(carry on any public dance within the
<br />Town of Redwood City.- between the
<br />hour of one o'clock In the morning; of
<br />any day and the hour of seven o'clock
<br />In the morning of said day.
<br />SECTION 2. It is hereby declared
<br />unlawful for any person, persons, -firm,
<br />co-.partnernhip, society or corporation
<br />to give, manage, conduct, permit oil'
<br />carry on Any public dance within the
<br />Town of Redwood City without first
<br />procuring a written permit from the
<br />Board of Trustees of the Town of Red-
<br />wood City.
<br />I Applications for a,permit must be in
<br />Writing and must ?tate (1) the name
<br />of the person or persons, firm, co -part-
<br />nership, society or corporation deslr-
<br />Ing a permit. (2) the date that said
<br />dance takes place. (3) the place where
<br />sald dance will be held. (4) character
<br />or nature of dance, (5) admission fee
<br />or other charge if any. (6) whether
<br />said dance Is open to the general pub -
<br />lie or Invitational.
<br />Any firm, co -partnership at, corpora-
<br />tion making application for A permit',
<br />1 to hold a dance shall state in the ap-
<br />plication the names of the ofilcers,
<br />1 of such firm, co -partnership, or cor-
<br />poration.
<br />The Board of Trustees of the Town
<br />of Redwood City shall have the power
<br />to grant or deny any Application made
<br />under the provisions of this Ordinance.
<br />Whenever an admission fee is to be
<br />:charged for any dance given under the
<br />provisions of this Ordinance the ner-
<br />,son or persons, firm, co -partnership,
<br />society or corporation malting al)Pll-
<br />cation for the permit shall accompany
<br />said application with n fee of two -dol-
<br />lars -fifty ($2,50) cents, if said Art-
<br />plicatlon Is for a dance closing at 12
<br />o'clock and a fee of five ($5.09) dollars
<br />If said application Is for a dance clos,-
<br />Ing at 1 o'clock.
<br />Regularly organlsed, beneficial, fra-
<br />ternal organizations and the hire De-
<br />partment of the Town of Redwood City.
<br />are exempted from the provisions of
<br />this Section requiring the payment of
<br />fees with their dance Applications.
<br />.-- Section 3. A public dance within the
<br />meaning of this Ordinance is any dance
<br />or dancing of any kind held in any
<br />public hall, public room, public hotel,
<br />public candy store, public restaurant,
<br />or any bOarding or rooming house with
<br />three or more regular bord-
<br />ers 01, roomers or any dance
<br />held .fit any pince within the
<br />Town of Redwood city, where any ad-
<br />mission fee is charged or Any charge
<br />for dancing is made, whether said
<br />change m• fee being In cash or any oth-
<br />er article or thing of value.
<br />SECTION 4, Any person, persons,
<br />firm, co -partnership, society or corpora-
<br />tion violating any of the provisions of
<br />this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty
<br />of a misderneanor, and upon conviction .
<br />thereof shall be punished by a fine not,
<br />exceeding one -hundred ($100.00) dol-
<br />lars or by imprisonment in the County
<br />Jail in the County of San Matuo, State
<br />of California. not exceeding thirty
<br />days or by both such line and Imprison-
<br />ment.
<br />SECTION 5. All Ordinances or Parts
<br />of Ordinances in conflict with this Or-
<br />dinance are hereby repealed.
<br />SECTION 6. This Ordinance shall I,e
<br />published once In the Redwood City
<br />Standard, A weekly newspaper publish-
<br />ed, printed and circulated in said Town
<br />Of Redwood City, And shall take effect'
<br />from and after thirty days after Its
<br />passage.
