Page 3 <br /> <br />Commissioner Reports <br />Commissioner Jones stated that Zena Vigaleos, past director of the Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center, who <br />regularly attended Senior Affairs Commission meetings, has terminal cancer and is now in her final days <br />in Oregon near family members. Fair Oaks offers exercise classes, healthy breakfasts and lunches and <br />gardening on Fridays. A shower truck is on site twice a week and available for use by homeless people. <br />Commissioner Britschgi stated that she attended a couple of City Council meetings and requested that a <br />downtown senior shuttle be placed on next month’s agenda for discussion. <br />Vice Chair Paley stated that Jodi Nienkirk, the accountant for Friends of the VMSC, lives in Naples, <br />Florida. Her home was moderately affected by the hurricanes. She and her husband are ok. Chase the <br />Chill is happening again this year. Collection bins for handmade scarves will be out next week and <br />scarves will be hung probably about November 15th. <br />Commissioner Mitchell reported that she has been purchasing and delivering fans to her elderly friends <br />during the hot weather. <br /> <br />Announcements <br />Bruce announced- <br />-Active Aging Week is the last week of September, 24-29 <br />-There is plan in development with Sequoia Healthcare District, which if all works out, will contribute <br />$15,000 to a program that will have LYFT pick seniors up at their homes and take them to medical and <br />dental appointments within San Mateo County, including Stanford Hospital, for a credit card charge of <br />$4 each way, beginning January 2018. Seniors will call in and speak to a live person to arrange for a ride. <br />The car and driver’s location are tracked on computer screen. Seniors are taken to their appointments <br />and then call in again for a return ride home. This program is in place in neighboring cities. Bruce will <br />inquire if some of the funds allocated to take seniors downtown events might be transferred to this <br />program in order to lower the $4 fee. <br />-Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast at VMSC on Thursday, November 9th, 9-11 a.m., $5.00 <br />-New VMSC brochure is going out soon <br /> <br />Adjournment <br />The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at 2:35 p.m. with a moment of <br />silence in memory of Vincent Truscelli. The next meeting will be on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 1:00 <br />p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center in Redwood City, California. <br />
