M <br />Mr. Jos. Casaretto spoke about the flood condition at the intersection of <br />Brewster and Hillview Avenues whenever there happened to be a hard rain and <br />the City Engineer explained that conditions were such that each winter this <br />intersection would be flooded. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded <br />by Councilman Hildebrant, the City Engineer was instructed to bring in a <br />report as to a suggested remedy together with the cost and other data, as well <br />as his recommendation as to the district to be included. <br />Mr. A. Wentz for the South Redwood Improvement Club made a protest concerning the <br />work to be included in the extension of Hudson Street and the City Attorney <br />explained that such protests should be heard at the regular date set, June 2, 1930. <br />Mr. Leonard of Leonard & Holt presented certain plans and specifications for the <br />'building of gutters, curbs, and pavement on certain streetsin"Lenolt; and upon <br />i motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, he was given <br />permission to proceed in accordance with the plans and specifications drawn <br />up by the City Engineer except as to parking area. <br />Councilman McCarthy spoke about the plans of the County Supervisors and the work <br />of the County Engineer to widen El Camino Real to 100 feet and that the report <br />would doubtless be made public in about a mon'th. <br />Councilman McCarthy also spoke about a letter from Congressman Free and suggested <br />that the City communicate with our Senators regarding Rivers and Harbors <br />' Bill for the improvement of Redwood Creek. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, <br />Z <br />:. seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the Clerk was instructed to send a telegram <br />to Senator Johnson and Senator Shortridge, to be signed in the name of the Mayor. <br />li <br />Councilman McCarthy made a report of his interview with Col. Skeggs concerning the <br />traffic signals at Five Points. It developed that the Highway Division insisted <br />upon a manual operation but that possibly the time could be changed to agree <br />I <br />with a schedule proposed by the Council. He stressed that the department <br />wished to maintain standardization of equipment as much as possible and for <br />the purpose of control the permit would be limited, although he saw no reason <br />why it would be revoked. Finally, upon motion of councilman McCarthy, seconded <br />by Councilman Hildebrant, the Chief of Police was instructed to make a study <br />of the traffic, both automobile and pedestrian, during week days and on ' <br />Sundays and to make a count of the automobiles on some Sunday and on a week <br />1 day and make a report. <br />M_6_____ <br />Upon motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman McNulty, affidavits of <br />posting and publication under M-6 were ordered received and filed. <br />A formal protest to the work on Chestnut Street was read by the Clerk and later <br />was supplemented by an appeal by Lisle Winter as one of the property owners <br />affected. He outlined briefly the history of the track along Chestnut Street <br />and maintained that it was a detriment to the property. Dave L. Walter also <br />spoke. The City Engineer was asked to determine the percentage of property <br />frontage represented by the signers of the petition and reported that, at the <br />
