<br />Upon roll call, the following were present: Councilmen Mayor D R Stafford, H A Beeger, W J Dusel,
<br />C J Hildebrant, E B Hinman, P A McCarthy, G W McNulty, City Clerk B E Dyers.
<br />On motion of Councilman Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman Dusel, the minutes of the meeting
<br />held November 17th were approved.
<br />Upon request of John Gill, Superintendent of Redwood City Schools, the Treasyrer was instructed,
<br />upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hinman, to draw a warrant in
<br />favor of the City Tax Collector to cancel weed assessmenL-s charged to the school district.
<br />A letter vias read from the City and County of San Francisco protesting the payment of greed
<br />assessments against their property amounting to 644.1,7 and, upon motion of Councilman
<br />McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the matter was referred to the Attorney
<br />for his advice on the legality of such an assessment.
<br />Leonard & Holt in a letter dated November 24th sent the County tax bill for taxes on the
<br />property where the Easter Cross is situated and asked the City to pay this tax ex-
<br />plaining that while the deed had seemingly been delivered to the City it had never
<br />been recorded and was still in the name of Leonard & Holt. Upon motion of Councilman
<br />Hinman, seconded by Councilman Dusel, the Treasurer was authorized to pay the tax and
<br />the City 14anager was asked to locate the deed and have it ready for the next meeting.
<br />Frank K. Hoge filed a protest on behalf of D. A. Mendenhall against the assessed valution
<br />of Lot 1, Block 9, Dingee Park, and also against the weed assessment placed on this
<br />lot and Lot 4 in the same block. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by
<br />Councilman Hildebrant, the letter was ordered filed.
<br />The Clerk read a letter from Austin & Company, certified public accountants, San Francisco,
<br />concerning the auditing of the City's books which brought up a general consideration of
<br />this subject. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the
<br />letter was ordered file d.
<br />Arthur A. Voollmeke of Palo Alto asked the Council's permission to paint house numbers on
<br />the curbing. Upon motion of Councilman 1tcCarthy, seconded by Councilman Dusel, the
<br />communication was ordered filed and the City Engineer instructed to: arrange at once to
<br />place on the curbs the numbers of the houses, using local labor, at the City's expense.
<br />A letter from Mrs. Rose Dunce, 588 Castro Street, San Francisco, protesting against the penalty
<br />assessed against her property was, upon motion of Councilman I-ToCarthy, seconded by
<br />'Councilman Hildebrant, ordered filed.
<br />The City Engineer presented preliminary data concerning the cost of tree planting.
<br />The City rlanager presented copies of a contract with Howard J. Canine and Opal E. Canine,
<br />his wife, covering certain property on which a well is located and, upon motion of
<br />Councilman 11cCarthy, seconded by Councilman Beeger, the City Manager was authorized to
<br />execute the contract as prepared.
<br />The City 1:anager presented statements from the City Engineer indicating that Goo. DeGolyer
<br />was entitled to a $448.43 payment on storm sewers and that V. Dizillo was entitled to a
<br />payment of $1,788.09 for culverts and, upon motion of Councilman IicCarthy, seconded by
<br />Councilman Hildebrant, the recommendation of the Engineer was approved and the payments
<br />ordered.
