<br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
<br />REAYOOD CITY COUNCIL
<br />MAY 180 1931

<br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor D R Staff ord, H A Beeger, W J Dusel,
<br />C J Hildebrant, P A McCarthy, Geo Al McNulty. City Clerk B E Myers. Absent: Councilman
<br />E B Hinman.
<br />The minutes of the meeting of May 4th were approved, on motion of Councilman Dusel, seconded by
<br />Councilman Hildebrant.
<br />Grant U. Wood made application by letter for a junk peddlers license. In his letter he
<br />indicated that the State law allowed him to do this kind of work without paying a license
<br />fee but with this the City Attorney disagreed. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded ty
<br />Councilman Dusel, the application was denied without prejudice should a subsequent application
<br />be made.
<br />The recommendation of the Planning Commission regarding the proposed subdivision of Lots 1 and
<br />2, in Block 21, Robinsons Subdivision, requested by Mr. Foley, was accepted and approved,
<br />on motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman McNulty.
<br />Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Dusel, affidavit of publishing
<br />Ordinance No. 325 regulating the distributing of advertising matter was ordered filed;
<br />whereupon Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Dusel, moved that the ordinance
<br />be formally adopted. Carried. For complete text, see Ordinance Book No. 3, Page
<br />Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Beeger, affidavit of publishing
<br />Ordinance No. 326 changing the names of certain streets, etc., was ordered filed. In
<br />connection with this ordinance P.E. Brand, J.E. Layng, and L.B. Winiger were present
<br />and protested to the changing of Washington Street to Jefferson Avenue, Mr. Brand
<br />having presented at a previous meeting a written petition to the same affect. After
<br />considerable discussion in which C.H. Holt and D.L. ,'halter and the Councilmen engaged,
<br />Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Beeger, moved that the-protests'both oral
<br />and written be overruled. This motion was carried with Councilman McNulty voting "no".
<br />The ordinance was then formally adopted, upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by

<br />The question of removing the pole on James Street in front of the service station to be
<br />operated by John Brackett again came up for discussion with Mr. Kellogg, representing
<br />the Pacific Gas & Electric Co., and Yr. Moore, representing the Pacific Telephone and
<br />Telegraph Co., present. After considerable discussion it was decided to allow the
<br />matter to rest according to the action at the previous meeting, i.e., that the pole
<br />should be removed without expense to the property owner.
<br />R.N. Jones, representing the Greater South Redwood Improvement Club, again addressed the
<br />Council concerning the drainage problem, and paving, along Woodside Road. His
<br />discussion was supplemented by the Mayor who indicated that the matter was really
<br />up to the County Board of Supervisors to initiate the project, and the City Manager
<br />was instructed to bring the matter formally to the attention of the Supervisors, upon
<br />motion of Councilman Dusel, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant.
