The matter was referred to the City Manager. <br />The Veterans of Foreign -Wars requested the Council to pass a resolution to approve and endorse <br />proposed legislation providing for the cash payment of World War Veterans'_ Adjusted <br />Service Certificates. The resolution as presented was passed on motion of Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, with Councilmen Christensen, McCarthy and Lambert <br />voting "No". <br />WHEREAS, there has been much publicity broadcast throughout <br />the nation by both Press and Radio, in reference to the early cash <br />payment of World War Veterans' Adjusted Service Certificates, and <br />WHEREAS, the Federal Administration is seeking ways and <br />means of legally relieving the present economic stress of the nation, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the said Veterans' Adjusted Service Certificates <br />constitute an acknowledged Government Debt that should have been paid <br />at the time the service was rendered, and <br />WHEREAS, the early payment of this debt will, not only be <br />a just recognition of patriotic service, but will also save our Federal <br />Treasury millions of dollars in cost of administration, and will serve <br />as a great stimulation to business and industry in every part of the <br />nation, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of <br />Redwood City, California, in regular meeting assembled this 18th day <br />of March, A.D. 1935, that we unanimously approve and endorse, pending <br />proposed legislation providing for such payment, and hereby call upon <br />and urge our Representatives in the Congress of the United States, to <br />support and work for such legislation until same is enacted into law. <br />Charles Cooley, of the Redwood City Airport, sounded out the Council concerning its attitude <br />toward developing the Airport. As the proposal was somewhat indefinite, the matter was <br />referred to a committee of the City Manager, Councilman Christensen and Mayor Lambert. <br />On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the following resolution was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />WHEREAS, the completion of the Oakland -San Francisco and <br />the Golden Gate Bridges is to be commemorated by a great international <br />exposition which will center the interest of the world on the San <br />Francisco Bay Area at that time; and <br />WHEREAS, those responsible for the success of the exposi- <br />tion must, in order to assure maximum benefits, select as its site <br />that particular spot which is most ideal; and <br />WHEREAS, the municipally owned land adjacent to the San <br />Francisco Airport in northern San Mateo County provides all of those <br />climatic, geggraphical, economic and transportation conditions so <br />essential to a successful international exhibition; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redwood , <br />City urges those responsible for locating the San Francisco Bay Expo- <br />sition to give favorable consideration to that land adjacent to the <br />San Francisco Airport as a site for this great undertaking. <br />As instructed at a previous meeting, the City Manager filed a report pertaining to penalties <br />on delinquent taxes. While making no definite recommendation he did suggest, as a tem- <br />porary measure, the following arrangement, to remain in effect until December 5, 1935: <br />Penalty on first installment, effective December 5 g% <br />Penalty on second installment, effective April 20 3% {: <br />Additional penalty on first installment 3% <br />Cost of Publishing $1.00 <br />All taxes unpaid the 1st day of July following the date of <br />delinquency to bear interest at the rate of 7% per annum.
