<br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
<br />REDWOOD' CITY COUNCIL
<br />APRIL 1, 1935
<br />9:00 P.M.
<br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, C. G. Lambert, L. C. Christensen, I

<br />J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, Geo. 77. McNulty, City Clerk, B. E.
<br />Myers. Absent: None.
<br />Theā¢miniites of the meeting of March 19, 1935, were approved on motion of Councilman Eva,
<br />seconded by Councilman McNulty.
<br />Miss Ruby Minor of Berkeley asked the Council, in a written communication, what could be done
<br />toward the payment of certain 1915 Act bonds as well as interest. Reply to this letter
<br />was referred to the City Attorney, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman
<br />McNulty.
<br />R. Schenk, 35 Jeter Street, filed a petition and also orally addressed the Council concerning
<br />the disturbance caused by roosters crowing in the early morning hours, and indicated it
<br />was not the desire to restrain people from having the chickens, but simply to eliminate the
<br />annoyance in the first residential section. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by
<br />Councilman Jones., the matter was referred to the Attorney to draw up a suitable ordinance.
<br />At the previous meeting, the City Attorney had been asked to redraft an ordinance concerning the
<br />use of radios, loud amplifiers on the streets, etc., and revised ordinance was presented.
<br />After discussion, on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, it
<br />was decided to table the matter for the present.
<br />As requested, the City Attorney again submitted ordinance regulating closing hours of liquor
<br />establishments. This ordinance, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman
<br />Eva, was laid over until the next meeting.
<br />At this time there came up again for consideration the ordinance establishing closing hours
<br />for certain grocery and food establishments. The matter was discussed at some length and
<br />the discussion was participated in by Mr. Harrison of the Chamber of Commerce committee as
<br />well as Attorney Kirkbride from San Mateo. Finally, on motion of Councilman Fletcher,
<br />seconded by Councilman Christensen, the ordinance was tabled.
<br />The City Attorney presented for first reading and introduction an ordinance amending the present
<br />tax collection ordinance to provide for change of penalties. On motion of Councilman Jones,
<br />seconded by Councilman McNulty, the ordinance was introduced.
<br />Councilman Fletcher suggested that in consideration of the recent bond'election covering altera-
<br />tions at the High School plant that it would be desirable for the City Council to aak the
<br />School Trustees to incorporate in any contracts for services that labor residing in this
<br />school district be preferred. Mr. Fletcher so moved, seconded by Councilman McCarthy.
<br />Motion carried.
<br />The question of automobile speed on the Woodside Road was again taken up and the Council generally
<br />seemed to favor some regulation, so it was finally decided, on motion of Councilman McCarthy,
<br />seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that Chief Collins put on a regular officer, mornings,
<br />evenings, at noon and on Sundays, as he thought best, and check violators of traffic regula-
