LSIR3 WHEREAS the Airline Bus Company has applied to the Railroad Commission of this State for a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the operation of a bus line between San Francisco and Los Angeles via Coalinga and Taft and passing through Redwood City via Broadway and Middlefield Road, and WHEREAS the granting of such a certificate by the Railroad Commission would afford an entirely new means of transportation be- tween Redwood City and other cities and towns in San Mateo County and the San Joaquin Valley towns of Coalinga, Taft and other cities and"towns not now served by rail or bus transportation and would thereby tend to bring persons from said San Joaquin Valley towns to Redwood City and nearby places, and WHEREAS such competitive bus line will tend to improve service and decrease transportation charges in the carriage of passengers, express matter and newspapers, . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redwood City endorse said application as comporting with greater public convenience and necessity; FURTHER RESOLVED that Paul A. McCarthy, a member of said City Council, be and he is hereby authorized to appear before the Railroad Commission`of this State to urge the granting of such certificate; FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, certified by the Clerk hereof, be filed with the Railroad Commission of this State. William Vielhauer, of The Redwood City Tribune, reported concerning his Los Angeles trip with Clifford Walk and left the impression that the use of the OlDea property for airport seemed out of the question at present. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the two men were given a vote of thanks for their efforts. Councilman Fletcher stated he wished to go on record as being against any form of gambling in Redwood City, and proposed that the Council commend The Tribune for a certain editorial concerning the gambling situation, in the County. Motion seconded by Councilman McNulty and carried. The departmental reports were ordered filed. The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Christensen. Adjournment. Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, Geo. W. Mcnulty, City Clerk, B. E. Myers. Absent: None. The ninutes of the meeting of July 15, 1935, were approved on notion of Councilman McCarthy, u seconded by Councilman McNulty. There was presented by Walter S. Sterling, 1125 Sing Street, Redwood City, a bill for damages to a Graham -Paige automobile resulting from a collision at the intersection of Hudson Street and Jefferson.Avenue, April 18, with City Ford truck driven by George Hopkins. The bill was referred to the City Attorney for attention.
