172 <br />0 <br />r <br />n <br />Considerable discussion was entered into concerning the traffic situation, the use of <br />gates at crossings, etc., and the Mayor appointed Councilmen Christensen and Fletcher, <br />the City Manager and the City Attorney, to serve with him as a committee to discuss <br />this matter with the Southern Pacific officials, and the Clerk was asked to write the <br />Southern Pacific Company to ask if the Company would consider moving the freight <br />station from its present location to some other site where it would not be so closely <br />adjacent to important business activities and heavy traffic. <br />The Treasurer -explained to the Council that no money had been paid to Mr. O'Dea as rent <br />on the Airport property nor had the Lease been executed due to the fact that no <br />response had been received from the R.P.A. officials concerning the requested assis- <br />tance. The, Council agreed that no Lease should be entered into until this assistance <br />was granted, and the Clerk was instructed to write Mr. O'Dea concerning the delay in <br />signing the Lease. <br />On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, there was adopted a <br />resolution accepting Deed from the General.Petroleum Corporation granting right-of-way <br />for laying storm sewers and authorizing the Mayor.and the City Clerk to execute agree - <br />went in connection therewith. <br />Councilman McCarthy, speaking for the committee, reported what had been done about the <br />Harbor site and proposed, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that the City Attorney <br />provide necessary papers to ask the prooperty owners for options for six months or a <br />year at a rate of $1,500 an acre. Specifically the Clerk was,asked to write Peter <br />tum Soden, representing the heirs of A. A. Brown, to ask that he proceed to obtain, <br />if possible,'an option at $1,500 an acre. <br />The Clerk was asked to write Clarence 2. Choate, of the Volunteer Fire Department, express- <br />ing to him -the sympathy of the Council members in the loss of his wife. This, on <br />motion of Councilman.McNulty, seconded by Councilman Jones. <br />The departmental reports were ordered filed. <br />The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman <br />Fletcher. <br />Adjournment. <br />BEM: MR <br />i/ b ./ <br />City Clerk <br />
