ti
i
174
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL .
JANUARY 20-, 1936
8:00 P. M.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: L. C. Christensen, J. M. Eva,
E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, Geo. W. McNulty and City Clerk,
B. E. Myers. Absent: Mayor, C. G. Lambert.
In the absence of Mayor Lambert, Councilman McCarthy was chosen to serve as Chairman
pro tem.
The minutes of the meetings of January 6 and January 13, 1936, were approved on motion
of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher.
J. C. Youngberg, of Stone & Youngberg, addressed the Council concerning the status of
the 1915 Bond delinquencies and the refinancing bond issue. He was told by the
City Attorney that proper papers would be filed for the test case this week. He
requested of the Council, and the Council so ordered and instructed the City Clerk
and Treasurer, that all communications and all requests for information whether by
letter or in person concerning the 1915 Bonds of Redwood City were to be referred
to Stone & Youngberg. This, on motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by
Councilman Fletcher.
Stone & Youngberg made an offer to the City by letter to sell certain 1915 Bonds
at a given price, having purchased the bonds from their own money. The bonds were
as follows: Series N - $1,500; Series S - $1,000; Series 0 - $19000;
Series J - $1,649.88. The price at which they were offered for sale was $4,734.99,
and on motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the City
Treasurer was ordered to buy them.
George Boring, of the Walter Insurance Agency, and also a representative of the Pacific
Indemnity Company, asked the Council for permission to submit a bid for the con-
templated general liability insurance. This brought on considerable discussion,
bringing out the fact that the City Attorney had been approached by another in-
surance firm and that the City Manager already had figures from the City's insuring
agent. It was decided finally that the insurance people should submit sealed bids
to the Clerk prior to the next meeting, February 3, quoting coverage for 1 and 3
year periods for $1020,000 initial coverage, up to $50100,000, with excess in
their own companies and also in Lloyd's.
C. E. Bunyard, of Woodside Road and Gordon Avenue, called the Council's attention to
the fact that the Planning Commission had approved his application to alter,
repair and add to his present store, for the purpose of creating a soft drink
stand and restaurant, and asked final permission of the Council to do this. It
was granted, on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen,
with the understanding that plans and specifications should be approved by the
Building Inspector.
Floyd E. Kelley asked permission of the Council to hold a dance each Saturday night
IN
