<br />H. E. Higgins, addressed the Council concerning a permission given to Julius Smith in September,
<br />1935, to divide various lots in Blocks 39, 44, and 45, of Redwood Highlands, into what
<br />would have been at that time 47 -ft. frontage. Mr. Higgins, supported by W. H. Girvin,
<br />asked the Council to rescind its action in permitting such a.breakdown of these lots
<br />because the plan of Mr. Smith fell through and nothing had been done, and buyers had
<br />r,
<br />purchased lots in these blocks with a 0 -ft. frontage and the and other owners desired

<br />Y j to maintain that size of lot. Julius Smith, to whom the original permission had been
<br />granted, indicated his willingness to have it withdrawn. Therefore, on motion of.Coun-
<br />cilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, the Council rescinded its motion

<br />of September 16, 1935, affecting Lots 61 B, 9, and 11, in Block 39, Lots 6, S, 10, 12,
<br />ti
<br />y ! 14 and 16, Block 44, and Lots 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 120 14 and 16, in Block 45.
<br />Councilman Fletcher discussed with the Council the use of the Veterans' Hall for outside acti-
<br />vities, and on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by -Councilman Christensen, he was
<br />a ;
<br />authorized to interview the Veterans of Foreign Wars and to arrange for the use of the
<br />Veterans' Hall for a Pet and Hobby Show, and to assure the Veterans, in the name of the
<br />Council, that no damage would be done. The Clerk was instructed to write 0. K. Whitten-
<br />r ;
<br />burg that Councilman Fletcher would be present Thursday night to discuss the matter.
<br />On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Christensen, J. C. Youngberg was authorized
<br />to incur the expense of a man to visit Marysville, Auburn, and other cities to pick up
<br />I'
<br />1915 Act Bonds, on the same basis as the trip to Los Angeles.
<br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Hohn, proposed that the wages of Roger Walsh, as
<br />i
<br />head gardener, beginning April 1, be raised on a day basis to an amount not.to exceed
<br />$170 a month. Motion carried, with Councilman Eva and McNulty voting "No".
<br />Following this motion, there was considerable discussion about the pay increases for Roger
<br />Walsh and Allan McKay. Finally, Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty,

<br />I proposed that the City Attorney be instructed to draw up an amendment to the salary
<br />ordinance, fixing the salary of Allan McKay, as poundman, at $150, and that of Roger
<br />li
<br />Walsh, as head gardener, at $175. Carried.
<br />i This was the time set for hearing in the matter of the investigation by the Council of the
<br />i
<br />City of Redwood City of the use and occupancy of the premises at 35 Hudson Street, Redwood
<br />City. Mrs. Mabel Appelman, the owner of, the property, Albert Lascy, the Real Estate Agent
<br />who sold the property, and Peter Klitsch, a plumber who did work on the premises, having
<br />been subpoenaed, were present to testify and did testify. Mrs. Appelman, under oath,
<br />testified that she ha& not operated the premises as a hospital or convalescent home and
<br />did not intend to do so, and both Mr. Klitsch and Mr. Lascy stated in their testimony
<br />3 that there was no evidence to believe that the premises were, or would be, used for such
<br />r
<br />purposes. The Council decided to take the matter under advisement.
