314 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING <br />REDMOD CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 9, 1937 <br />5:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor Paul A. McCarthy, rt <br />Councilmen J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, Wm. Hohn, and G. W. McNulty, I� <br />and City Clerk B. E. Myers. Absent: Councilman L. C. Christensen. <br />This meeting was called principally for the final discussion of the budget for the <br />ensuing fiscal year. <br />The first item was consideration of the budget made up by the Port Manager, approved <br />by the Port Commission, and submitted to the City Manager. After discussion <br />and some explanation by the Port Manager, it was decided to accept the budget <br />as submitted omitting the item of $4,200 for a lift truck. This was done <br />on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Jones, and carried, <br />with Councilman McNulty voting "Noll and Councilman Hohn not voting. <br />On motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the City Manager was <br />authorized to include in the budget a 6¢ levy as one-half of the price of ten <br />acres near to, and desired to be annexed to the harbor lands. <br />In connection with the water Department budget, discussion ensued concerning the <br />salary paid -to A. S. Liguori, and it was decided on motion of Councilman <br />Hohn, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, to reduce his salary to $200 per month <br />effective September 1. <br />On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the tax ordinance - <br />establishing the amount of money to be raised for various governmental purposes <br />including bond requirements, library budget, et cetera was introduced. <br />Final consideration was given to the report of the committee investigating the <br />feasibility and desirability of the City's buying the present Central School <br />property for the purpose of transforming the building into a City Hall. <br />Councilman Eva, for the committee, recommended that the City buy this property <br />at a price of $55,000 as offered by the Elementary School District Trustees <br />and allow an estimated $15,000 more for alterations; funds for the purchase <br />and alteration to be raised by bond issue and from any other available <br />sources. Upon submitting the motion, Councilman Eva and Councilman Fletcher <br />voted "Yes" and Mayor McCarthy, Councilman McNulty, Jones, and Hohn voted "No". <br />Mayor McCarthy reported an interview with Perry Bygdnes, president of the Chamber <br />of Commerce, concerning advertising space in the Redwood City Tribune and <br />for the Harbor Opening Festival and for the San Mateo County Fiesta, and <br />also whether or not the City should enter a float in the Harbor Opening <br />Festival. The matter was referred to the City Manager to obtain a definite <br />recommendation from the Chamber of Commerce. ` <br />Adjournment. <br />BEM:HAS City Clerk <br />�I <br />
