318 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REIPNOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />September 7, 1937 <br />8:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor Paul A. McCarthy, <br />Councilmen L. C. Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, <br />Wm. Hohn, and G. W. McNulty, and City Clerk, B. E. Myers. <br />The minutes of the meeting of August 16 were approved on motion of Councilman Jones, <br />seconded by Councilman Christensen. <br />According to recommendation of the City Planning Commission dated September 3, per- <br />mission was given to William S. Lincoln to build a porch on the dwelling <br />located at the corner of Bradford and Jefferson even though the porch would <br />extend into the normal set -back area assigned to Bradford Street. This on <br />motion of Councilman Fletcher seconded by Councilman Christensen. <br />Healy-Tibbitts Construction Company in a letter dated September 4, asked for an <br />extension of time to October 20, 1937, for the completion of their contract <br />due to delays caused by strikes, etc. The extension of time requested was <br />granted on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Hohn. <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, proposed the adoption of <br />resolution in which the City agreed to continue to June 30, 1938, present <br />agreement with the Chamber of Commerce respecting City Advertising. Carried. <br />Frank DePatta, General Chairman of the Harbor Opening Festival Committe, requested 01, <br />that the City turn over to the committee the right to grant all concessions <br />in connection with the celebration to give better control over all concessions. <br />This was granted on motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />In connection with this decision, the question of having dances on Sunday <br />night was raised, and on roll call, it was decided to give such permission, <br />with Councilman McNulty voting "No". <br />In connection with a petition which had been filed, reading as follows, at We, the <br />following residents, request the removal of the family occupying residence <br />at 441 Fuller Street." May K. Griffin of Chilton Street appeared before the <br />Council to explain the situation. No action was taken other than to refer <br />the matter to the Building Inspector and to ask the Clerk to write the owner <br />of the property c oaoerning the Councils desire not to have property rented <br />to objectionable individuals. <br />In connection with three petitions which had been filed with the City Clerk, James <br />T. OlKeefe, Jr., appeared before the Council representing property owners <br />voters of Redwood City. Request was made in the petition and also by <br />Mr. O'Keefe that Flagmen and watchmen at the grade crossings on the Southern <br />Pacific right-of-way be rotained in addition to any mechanical devices which <br />might be used. Although considerable discussion ensued, no action was taken <br />other than to explain to Mr. O'Keefe that the use of flagmen and mechanical <br />0 <br />
