qf)
X34
.After ascertaining who was the lowest bidder for doing the work, Councilman
Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, proposed resolution awarding the con•
tract to Grant and Hoffman of Redwood City. Carried.
Councilman Eva, for the committe investigating Health and Accident Insurance for the
employees.of the City, made a report concerning the proposal made by two
Insurance Companies. Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Hohn pro-
posed that the plan be submitted to the employees, but following a discussion
both Councilman Christensen and Councilman Hohn withdrew the motion before
vote and Mayor McCarthy appointed a committee to formulate for the City a
plan or policy for payments to,employees who are incapacitated because -of accid-
efiVor sickness outside of their regular work. Mayor McCarthy appointed on the
committee Councilman McNulty, as chairman, with Councilmen Jones and Eva.
Councilman McNulty seconded by Councilman Jones, proposed the adoption of Ordinance
No. 400, calling special election for the purpose of submitting the proposi-
tion of incurring a bonded indebtedness of $575,000. Carried.
On motion of Councilman -Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, there was
introduced an ordinance requiring the construction of sidewalks upon street
frontages of lots upon which new buildings are to be built upon streets that
are now improved with pavement and concrete curbs. Carried.
Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed the introduction of an
ordinance regulating and licensing restaurants in the City of Redwood City,
Carried.
There was read a letter from the Exchange Club concerning the formation in Redwood
City of a Community Chest, and requesting that the Council endorse the movement.
The City Clerk was instructed to write the Exchange Club that the Council would
dooperate and would be willing to make similar contributions to the Chest, if
formed.
Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed adoption of a resolu-
tion accepting a deed from H. W. and Clara Belcher. Carried.
Councilman Eva submitted a letter from Milton T. Smith, 111 Sutter Street, San
Francisco, reading as follows:
"Should the City of Redwood City offer Milton T. Smith the sum of
$7.50 per lot on or before October 20, 1937, Milton T. Smith, upon
approval of this offer, will authorize, direct and instruct the
Northern Counties Title Insurance Company to prepare and issue a quit
claim deed on some lots in Central Park No. 2, Redwood City, California."
Councilman Eva explained that the total indebtedness against the 72 lots affected was
$8,484.71, and that at the beginning of the committee's work, the real estate
group had appraised the lots at about $3,000. After some discussion it was
decided, on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty,
to accept the offer contained in the letter, provided the City would be furnished
a certificate of title or a letter indicating that there were no encumbrances
on the lots, other than the City or County taxes.
t.
i
i
I
Eli
R
