410 MINCTES Oy'REGULAR MEETING. REDWOOD CITY"COUNCIL" AUGUST l'; .1939 8:00 P. M. Upon roll call the following Councilmen were present: Councilmen H. P. Anderson, E. A. Pletcher, Am. Rohn, Robert N. Jones, Paul A. McCarthy, Geo. R. McNulty, and City Clerk B. E. Myers; absent, Mayor L. C. Christensen. In the absence of Mayor Christensen, on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Anderson, Councilman McCarthy was chosen to serve as chairman. The minutes of the meeting of July 18 were approved on motion of Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson. In a letter signed by E. M. McGlade, the Rest Coast Advertising Company asked per- mission to erect two panels in locations where present panels will have to be removed due to building activity. This matter was discussed at some length, and the final decision was that, hereafter whenever any advertising panels were removed from any location, permit would not be given to erect them at some other location. In other words, there was no inclination to increase the number of panels, and wherever possible, it was the desire to decrease the number. This on motion of Councilman Hohn, seconded by Councilman McNulty. The request of the Rest Coast Advertising Company was denied. The City Manager submitted a letter covering the additional coat of lighting Broadway east of Main as requested by organizations desiring to drill at that point. For � one plan he estimated the cost to be $200 a year with an alternative amounting to $250 a year. It was decided, on motion of Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, that the lighting was desirable and that if more lighting could be had for an additional payment of about $50, it would be better to follow the second plan. At the request of the City Manager, the Clerk read to the Council a copy of a letter written by -the Manager to the Superintendent of the Southern Pacific Company regarding the hazard at the Jefferson Avenue crossing of the railroad tracks. The City Manager thought it necessary that the signal at that crossing be operated manually and that a flagman be stationed there at least during the hours of switching operation. The Council concurred in the statement of the City Manager, and the City Clerk was instructed to write to the Southern Pacific Company supporting the statement made by the City Manager and urging the cooperation of the company. The City Attorney reported that he had written to Mr. Hoy Cloud, the co-owner of the property at 2061 Broadway, but had received no reply. He was asked to reach t t
