He then presented the following letter from Architect James H. Mitchell:
11Mr. C. L. Dimmitt, City Manager
Redwood City, California Re: City Hall Light Fixt.
.PWA 1991-F
Dear Mr. Dimmitt:
A careful comparison has been made of the bids received for
Lighting Fixtures and the substitute fixtures proposed. With respect
to the three bids submitted I find, as follows:
GENERAL ELECTRIC SUPPLY CORPORATION, 1201 Bryant St., S.F.
The general criticism of fixtures quoted upon.for the various
principal rooms is in the matter of size and appearance. In most
instances the fixtures are smaller than those specified. I do not
consider the fixtures good looking and would not care to use them for
the effect that would be produced throughout the building.
WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC SUPPLY CO., 260 - 5th St., S.F.
The bid is strictly in conformity with the specifications but is
the highest bid.
G. W. HUTCHINSON & CO., 717 Market St., S.F.
The bid closely parallels -the specifications: In several
instances the fixtures specified and handled by others has been in-
cluded in the bid. A digression is noted in the Council Room where it
is proposed to use full indirect fixtures in place of the semi -indirect
as specified. However, the substitution would be acceptable.
In general, the fixtures proposed would be acceptable in the
matter of utility and appearance and I recommend that the award be made
to the G. W. Hutchinson Co., notwithstanding that theirs is not the
low bid.11 N
The Manager concurred in the recommendation. Councilman Fletcher, seconded by
Councilman Anderson, proposed adoption of resolution awarding the contract for lighting
fixtures for the City Hall to the G. W. Hutchinson Co. Carried.
Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, proposed adoption of Resolution ac-
cepting deeds as outlined below.
