IL <br />r1 <br />Lam' <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 2, 1940 <br />5:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call the following councilmen were present: H.F. Anderson, E.A. Fletcher, <br />R.N. Jones, P.A. McCarthy, G.W. McNulty, Mayor L.C. Christensen, and City <br />Clerk B.E. Myers; absent, Councilman Wm. Hohn. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of December 15 were approved on motion of <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />Mrs.Jacob Ott, 210 Lexington Avenue, complained about the condition of the street <br />in front of her property, and the City Manager was asked to investigate. <br />Contractors license ordinance No. 432 came up for adoption and was discussed <br />from the floor by John Foster, 1441 Roosevelt, R. C. Stahl, 51 Northumber- <br />land, and by Thomas Nelson. The ordinance was finally passed on motion of <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />A. J. Wilbe, 1002 Arlington Road, appeared concerning his bill for $957.25 which <br />he claimed under an agreement with the City in connection with the Model <br />Home. He insisted that he should not be compelled to accept the $450 in <br />full payment offered by the city. However, after considerable discussion, <br />no action was taken by the Council and Mr. Wilbe retired feeling compelled <br />to accept the0450 in full settlement. <br />The Clerk submitted communication from the State Employees' Retirement System <br />indicating an estimated cost of $247.50 for that organization to determine <br />the approximate contribution necessary for the city in the establishment <br />of a local employees retirement system in connection with the state system. <br />The Clerk was authorized to send in the necessary application to have the <br />work done. <br />The City Attorney made explanation about the difficulty of ascertaining title <br />to the property involved in connection with the proposed Cedar Street <br />opening, but hoped to have something definite at the next meeting. <br />Permission was given to Irene Hafford and Ruth Montgomery to conduct a restau- <br />rant at 2116 Broadway with the understanding that there be no sale of <br />distilled spirits in connection with the restuarant. <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, proposed adoption of <br />resolution accepting quit claim deed from Elizabeth Buck for a small <br />parcel on Jefferson Avenue. Carried. <br />Following motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the <br />Clerk was instructed to write a letter of commendation to the Bel Canto Chorus. <br />The Departmental reports were ordered filed. <br />The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded <br />by Councilman Anderson. <br />Adjournment. <br />BEM: HAS <br />i. � W y. e.LAQ <br />City Clerk <br />. <br />
