IL r1 Lam' MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL JANUARY 2, 1940 5:00 P. M. Upon roll call the following councilmen were present: H.F. Anderson, E.A. Fletcher, R.N. Jones, P.A. McCarthy, G.W. McNulty, Mayor L.C. Christensen, and City Clerk B.E. Myers; absent, Councilman Wm. Hohn. The minutes of the regular meeting of December 15 were approved on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson. Mrs.Jacob Ott, 210 Lexington Avenue, complained about the condition of the street in front of her property, and the City Manager was asked to investigate. Contractors license ordinance No. 432 came up for adoption and was discussed from the floor by John Foster, 1441 Roosevelt, R. C. Stahl, 51 Northumber- land, and by Thomas Nelson. The ordinance was finally passed on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson. A. J. Wilbe, 1002 Arlington Road, appeared concerning his bill for $957.25 which he claimed under an agreement with the City in connection with the Model Home. He insisted that he should not be compelled to accept the $450 in full payment offered by the city. However, after considerable discussion, no action was taken by the Council and Mr. Wilbe retired feeling compelled to accept the0450 in full settlement. The Clerk submitted communication from the State Employees' Retirement System indicating an estimated cost of $247.50 for that organization to determine the approximate contribution necessary for the city in the establishment of a local employees retirement system in connection with the state system. The Clerk was authorized to send in the necessary application to have the work done. The City Attorney made explanation about the difficulty of ascertaining title to the property involved in connection with the proposed Cedar Street opening, but hoped to have something definite at the next meeting. Permission was given to Irene Hafford and Ruth Montgomery to conduct a restau- rant at 2116 Broadway with the understanding that there be no sale of distilled spirits in connection with the restuarant. Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, proposed adoption of resolution accepting quit claim deed from Elizabeth Buck for a small parcel on Jefferson Avenue. Carried. Following motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the Clerk was instructed to write a letter of commendation to the Bel Canto Chorus. The Departmental reports were ordered filed. The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Anderson. Adjournment. BEM: HAS i. � W y. e.LAQ City Clerk .
