FLL� <br />D <br />p <br />0 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 39 1939 <br />9:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, X. A. Fletcher, <br />Wm. Rohn, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, G. W. McNulty, Mayor L. C. Christensen; and <br />City Clerk B. E. Myers. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of December 19 and of adjourned regular meetings of <br />December 22, 27, and 29, 1939, were approved on motion of Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />A bill of $225 from the League of California Municipalities for the annual charge was <br />discussed, and on -motion -of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, <br />it was referred to the City Manager with instructions to ascertain what the other <br />communities were doing and report back at the next meeting. <br />The Clerk read a letter from Mr. Richard J. Welch concerning his lot on E1 Camino <br />Real, and this matter was also referred to the City Manager to arrange to have <br />the lot cleaned. <br />Application of Albert C. and Joe W. Smithee for license to run a restaurant at'2201 <br />Broadway was presented and permit'granted 6n motion of Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />The Clerk.re-read a letter from the Clean Up Campaign Committee containing the follow - <br />Ing recommendations: <br />"That abatement procedure be instituted against property located <br />at 331 Hells# Street. (A. R. Greco, 963 Main St.) <br />Tear down barn at 729 Arguello Street; (R. Chatham, c/o E. <br />Mansfield, 729 Arguello) <br />Shed, barns and homes to be cleaned, painted or demolished in the <br />500 block on Hamilton Street; (A. E. Benson & J. J. Bullock) <br />Tear down shed on Roosevelt Ave., at Ramona also barns along the <br />creek between Middlefield Road and the railroad track. (D. Damonti, <br />614 Vermont, S. F.= owner of shed on Roosevelt Ave.) <br />To remove tool shed from parking lot on Main Street; <br />To communicate with the Gilmore 011 Company asking them to clean <br />or improve unsightly lot situated at the Southwest corner of Middle- <br />field Rd. and Main. <br />Request the Coulcil to devise ways and means of improving appear- <br />ance of Bayshore Highway along Redwood City, which is now used as a <br />dumping ground. <br />It was also recommended by the committee that the Council take <br />steps to ban real estate and similar signs from the City." <br />There was also read a subseouent letter reporting the success of the Campaign <br />and offering certain proposals. Paul Lowzand members of his committee were <br />present, and most of them spoke concerning the work already done or that which <br />could be done toward beautifying the city. It was suggested that the present <br />committee be discharged, but that a new committee be organized. Members of the <br />Council thought that as many of the present committee be retained as possible <br />and perhaps new members be added. The Council especially went on record as <br />highly appreciating the efforts:of.the present committee and thought the com- <br />mittee deserved a great deal of praise. On motion of Oountilman Anderson, <br />seconded.by Councilman McNulty, the Clerk was instructed to write to the Fraternal <br />I <br />
