296 <br />Request was <br />received from E. E. <br />Hegelheimer to operate a cleaning plant <br />to be <br />known <br />as Andrew's Cleaners <br />in the 800 block on Jefferson Avenue. <br />The <br />building is under construction and is being built-in accordance with all <br />city and State building codes and regulations for cleaning plants, the <br />plans and blueprints have been approved by the Building Inspector and by <br />the State Fire Marshall. Check for $7.50 was enclosed to cover the li- <br />cense fee. There was some discussion as to whether this business came <br />under the head of business or industry but it was pointed out that there <br />are several such plants in the business district. Councilman Britschgi <br />moved, seconded by Councilman Granger, that the permit be granted. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Application was received from Lawrence E. Jantz for a dance permit at 2015 El <br />Camino Real. Dancing will be confined to a room separate from the cock- <br />tail lounge and dining room. Councilman Granger advised that he had in- <br />spected the premises upon a request to do so, and stated that the room to <br />be used for dancing was formerly a storeroom. Inasmuch as none of the <br />other councilmen had inspected the premises, Councilman Anderson moved, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the matter be held over to the next <br />meeting to allow time for the councilmen to inspect this place of business. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Application was received from Court Madrone, No. 158, F. of A., for permission <br />to conduct benefit dances Saturdays, April 6th and 13th. Councilman <br />Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the permit be granted. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from the Democratic County Central Committee of San <br />Mateo County signed by Rene Cazenave, chairman, and Frank M. Olsen, seore- <br />tary, urging a county -wide registration week during the month.of April and <br />asking that the city adopt a resolution in support of this action. Coun- <br />cilman Granger offered resolution and moved its adoption setting aside the <br />week of April 152 1946, for a city-wide registration, seconded by Council- <br />man Anderson. On roll call, resolution was unanimously adopted with <br />Councilman Fletcher absent. <br />RESOLUTION No. 298 <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING REGISTRATION WEEK. <br />WHEREAS, there has been a great influx of new residents into Califor- <br />nis during the years of the war and since the termination of hostilities <br />In Europe and in the Orient, and many veterans have come to majority dur- <br />ing and since their military service, and it is desirable to have as large <br />a registration of voters as possible so that there may be a higher percent- <br />age of electors qualified to vote at all elections hereafter to be held in <br />California; <br />RESOLVED, that this City Council of the City of Redwood City does <br />hereby urge all persons eligible to vote in San Mateo County and elsewhere <br />in California to register at as early a date as possible and for the •en- <br />couragement of registration of voters hereby proclaims the week beginning <br />April 15th, 1946 as registration week. <br />The above and foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the <br />Council of the City of Redwood City at a regular meetin thereof held on <br />the let day of April, 1946, by the following vote: <br />AYES, and in favor of the passage and adoption of the foregoing Reso- <br />lution: Councilmen: ANDERSON, ARMSTRONG, BRITSCHGI, GRANGER, McNULTY and <br />HILTON. <br />0 <br />L� I. <br />I <br />I <br />r <br />it <br />
