Councilman' Granger believed some action should be taken so that awnings on busi- <br />ness buildings -,do not obstruct pedestrian traffic. <br />City Manager Blom advised in answer to Councilman Granger's inquiry regarding <br />traffic at 5 Points, that the State Highway Department had not felt they could <br />assign anyone to that intersection to make a survey of traffic conditions. <br />He stated he would discuss the matter with them again at the same time the <br />traffic signals are discussed. <br />Councilman Granger advised that the State welfare Board has rendered a decision <br />that property is actually in the name of the person who holds the contract <br />when the loan is obtained from the Board. City Attorney McCarthy advised he <br />had written for this decision. <br />Councilman Granger questioned a claim for heater planer work. City Manager Blom <br />advised this was for work done on Middlefield Road and in front of the post <br />office on Jefferson Avenue: Councilman Granger also questioned claim for <br />$200 jury fees in connection with the Adler Case. City Attorney McCarthy <br />advised it was necessary for the city to advance all jury expenses in ad - <br />Vance of the trial. <br />Councilman Britscngi reported that he had read a newspaper account of a distur- <br />bance at the Two Friends Cafe and asked for a report from the City Manager <br />to ascertain whether the business should be closed. City Attorney McCarthy <br />advised that the restaurant license could be revoked by the Council but that <br />action would have to be initiated before the State Board of Equalization to <br />revoke the liquor license. <br />Councilman Armstrong asked the status of pedestrian gates at the railroad cross- <br />ing. City Manager Blom reported that he had discussed the matter with Mr. <br />J. J. Jordan of the Southern Pacific who advised that he would have a study <br />made and render a recommendation soon. <br />Claims No. 273 to 357 in the amount of $30,738.47 were approved and ordered paid <br />on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Swift. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br />Mayor Hilton appointed the Business License Committee to be composed of Council- <br />men Britschgi, Swift and Werder. <br />Councilman Swift moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the meeting be <br />adjourned.
