9 <br />would make it impossible for the Water Department to complete certain important 159 <br />projects which must be completed before the summer season, City Manager Rolison re- <br />quested that the Collen Construction Corporation be notified that the Water Depart- <br />ment would be unable to do 'the work as originally intended. During this period other <br />projects could not be started as much of the work called for trenching on major streets <br />once commenced could not be abandoned. Councilman Morgan moved approval of City <br />Manager Rolison's request, seconded by Councilman Holmquist. Motion carried. <br />BREAKING OF GROUND CEREMONIES FOR THE NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY, REDWOOD CITY C014MUNITY CENTER, <br />Saturday, April g', 1949, at 2:00 P.M. 'council members.and City employees were in- <br />vited to join in dedicatory service in communication from Military Manpower Committee, <br />Larry K. Hatlett, Chairman. The date to be kept in mind, communication filed. <br />C. M. OTTER, CONTROLLER'S OFFICE, SAN MATEO COUNTY, owner of 2 lots 25 and 26, Hillside, <br />South Kensington Square Improvement District, right-of-way acquisition, Alameda <br />widening, requested assurance from the City if he gave 51 strip for widening of the <br />street that property should be left in as suitable a condition for a home as it was <br />before, or that he should be reimbursed to the extent it would be damaged.- The front <br />of the lot had an approximate bank of 4 feet. City Engineer Jain was to talk with <br />the owner personally although he had looked over the lot. City Engineer Jain <br />stated this was a deep lot and the owner intended to "build on the back of it. Mr. <br />Jain stated the property could be condemned, and even after that the owner could <br />offer it to the City; many parcels had been condemned. Councilman Britschgi moved <br />this be carried on the agenda pending a report by City Engineer Jain, seconded by <br />Councilman Morgan. Motion carried. <br />SOUTH KENSINGTON SQUARE STREET IMPROVEMENTS. The question of streets was brought up by <br />a group representing residents, Mr. C. W. Linder, 3+05 Dover Road, W. Voke, 909 <br />Lancaster, C. D. Keeney, 912 Lancaster Way. They preferred to hear Mr. Jain's report <br />on the progress first. Mr. Jain submitted a report in a letter recommending that <br />the project be reduced to include sanitary sewers, storm sewers and culverts at <br />estimated cost of $80,000 and continuance with right-of-way acquisition for widening <br />of Jefferson Avenue and Alameda de las Pulgas. <br />LETTER.
