220 <br />STATION":TO BE INSTALLED ON BREWSTER AND EL CAMINO REAL, City Manager was of the opinion that not more <br />than 40% would be allowed. Councilman Morgan moved that the matter be referred to the Traffic Fact <br />Finding Committee for study and report back at next meeting their recommendation for resolution to <br />be adopted, seconded by Councilman Swift and carried. <br />COUNCILMAN GRANGER MOVED THAT THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY BE NOTIFIED TO HAVE THE SPRUCE STREET CROSSING <br />PUT INS'CONDITION IMMEDIATELY, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried. I� <br />COUNCILMAN GRANGER INTRODUCED THE MATTER OF PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FOR NEW EMPLOYEES OTHER THAN POLICE AND d N <br />FIRE WHO WERE ALREADY BEING EXAMINED and moved that the matter be referred to the Personnel Board <br />for their consideration. Mayor Werder stated he was opposed to the idea because the City was already <br />protected from any employers liability arising from injury to the employee while on duty because of <br />its coverage on State Compensation Insurance, furthermore $5.00 did not give an adequate examination in <br />in his opinion. Motion seconded by Councilman Morgan and motion tied on roll call, Councilmen <br />Granger, Holmquist and Morgan voting Yes. Councilman Britschgi noted absent. Matter was placed on <br />the agenda for the next meeting. <br />COUNCILMAN SPILLERS ASKED CITY MANAGER AND ENGINEER WHY IT 14AS NECESSARY TO PURCHASE BEDROCK AND ASPHALT <br />OUT OF THE CITY. City Manager explained that local dealers had been contacted and they were gaiting <br />to hear from them, that the proper mix could hot be obtained locally. Placed on agenda for next meeting. <br />COUNCILMAN HOLMQUIST ASKED ABOUT ALLEYS TO BE PAVED 'JEST OF EL CAMINO REAL BETWEEN FULTON & CLEVELAND. <br />Petition for seven alleys had not been brought in, but City Engineer had practically completed plans <br />and specifications on five alleys for assessment district. <br />COUNCILMAN HOLMQUIST STATED THAT 105 FT EASEMENT AT THE END OF PINE AND BUCKEYE STREETS SHOULD BE DEDICATED <br />IN ORDER TO PROCEED on improvements and suggested that City Attorney and City Engineer prepare necessary <br />papers for property owners to dedicate street in front of their homes,to the City. ' <br />COUNCILMAN HOLMQUIST left meeting 9:00 PM. <br />AWARD OF BIDS KENSINGTON SQUARE NO. 1. Bids were checked by City Engineer dnd found that one was in error. <br />Underground Construction Company was $118,844.65 instead of $118,656.65. He recommended that bid be <br />awarded to Edwin J. Tobin Co., low bidder, $75,738.58. Councilman Spillers offered resolution and <br />moved adoption, seconded by Councilman Swift and carried on roll call. Councilman Britschgi and <br />Holmquist noted absent. City Engineer stated November 1st would be the final date of completion. <br />Low bid was 4% different than estimated. <br />RES 0LUTI0N N0. 721 <br />RESOLUTION AWARDING CONTRACT KENSINGTON SQUARE NO. 1 (1948-2) <br />WHEREAS the Council of the City of Redwood City did, in open session, on the 6th day of June, <br />1949, publicly open, examine, and declare all sealed proposals or bids for doing all the work and <br />making all the improvements described in Resolution of Ifitention No. 707 of said Council, passed <br />and adopted by said Council on May 2, 1949. Said work and improvements consist generally of the <br />construction and installation of a sanitary sewer system and storm sewer system, together with all <br />necessary appurtenances to said systems in that area within the City of Redwood City commohly known <br />and referred to as Kensington Square. <br />RESOLVED, that slid Council of the City of Redwood City hereby rejects all said proposals or <br />bids except that next herein mentioned, and hereby awards the contract for doing said work and making <br />said improvements to the lowest, regular, responsible bidder, to wit: EDWIN J. TOBIN COMPANY, a <br />partnership, at the prices named in their bid, to which bid reference is hereby made for further <br />particulars. • <br />The City Clerk is hereby directed to publish a notice of this award in the Redwood City Tribune, <br />a daily newspaper (except Sunday), published, printed and circulated in said City of Redwood City, <br />and hereby designated for that purpose by the Council of said City. <br />Passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Redwood City at a regular meeting 41ereof held <br />on the 6th day of June, 1949, by the following vote: <br />AYES, and in favor of the passage and adoption of the foregoing resolution: Councilmen: <br />GRANGER, MORGAN, SPILLERS, SWIFT and WERDER. <br />NOES, Councilmen: NONE. <br />ABSENT, Councilmen: BRITSCHGI and HOLMQUIST. <br />0 <br />
