<br />sufficient funds to be made available to oppose this measure at the public hearing which would be held,
<br />along with other cities of the Bay Area. .Councilman Morgan thought the various clubs and organizations
<br />should be supported in opposing this measure and that the community would be affected if the increase
<br />went into effect. City Attorney was willing to appear and -voice opposition if Council so desired. G
<br />Councilman Britschgi thought the City would be interferring with private enterprise in their regulation
<br />of rates. Councilman Granger moved that the Mayor appoint a committee to cooperate with the Chamber
<br />of Commerce and take the necessary steps to study and bring back a report C4amber of Commerce to desig.
<br />nate two from their organization, seconded by Councilman Morgan. Mr. Harman, President of the Chamber
<br />of Commerce was present and readily agreed to work with the City on this. The Mayor appointed Mr.
<br />Harman, City Manger,Councilmen Morgan and Granger to bring back their recommen*Uon at the next regu-

<br />CITY ENGINEER JAIN ASKED FOR AUTHORITY TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS ON THE RESURFACING OF JEFFERSON BETWEEN ADAMS
<br />AND GRAND, AND, RECONSTRUCTION OF JEFFERSON BETWEEN ADAMS AND ELCAMINO REAL. He further stated they
<br />definitely wanted to do this by contract as it would save delay. Councilman Granger moved approval
<br />of authority to City Engineer to advertise for bids, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.

<br />HOOVER RECREATION BUILDING REPORT, COUNCILMAN HOLMQUIST, CHAIRMAN. Mr. Holmquist reported that this had been
<br />considered by the Real Estate Committee and Councilman Spillers and himself, in re to the 3 lots owned
<br />by the City on Charter Street. One lot houses the Animal Shelter; on one there is a well from which
<br />water is sold to S & W Fine Foods, and one houses Recreation Building. The primary reason the School
<br />District wished to purchase these lots was to have the pound removed. As it was the intent to move
<br />this anyway the committee saw no reason for selling this property and that was their recommendation
