Councilman Morgan moved that the matter be reffered to the Real Estate <br />Committee for study, seconded by Councilman Grangerp Under the question, Councilman <br />Granger suggested that investigation also determine whether adjoining property <br />owners could be required to repair the bridge so that same might be open to traffic, <br />This latter thought was added to the original motion. Motion carried. <br />COUNCILMAN JONES COMMENTED ON THE FACT THAT ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT HAD BEEN UNABLE TO <br />illi, I SECURE PROPER ASSISTANCE due to starting salaries as authorized by ordinance. He. <br />;; i, discussed the possibility of paying on a per diem basis, and was informed by the <br />City Engineer 8 that only inspectors y p were paid on per diam basis. Councilman <br />Granger suggested this matter be discussed further at budget study meeting. <br />6 <br />STREET REPAIRS. Councilman Spillers expressed xpressed his satisfaction with the work as now <br />being conducted. Councilman Jones concurred in this thought. Councilman Granger <br />discussed the condition of a portion of Whipple Avenue and was informed by the City <br />Engineer that he was at present checking the failure on Whipple near Bayshore. He• <br />advised the present program was a sealing obonly in an attempt to save the present <br />paving. The work was not to be considered in any way a permanent job. Coull"lulo <br />Granger stated that he was attempting to avoid the necessity of having to haul <br />Ir ell <br />r' 1'IL-Ij . ! Iili? r materials from the L. C. Smith plant in San Mateo. He stated further that he felt <br />C the .Council had not been full informed of the details of the <br />�"� tl,ll, 1 Y program when last <br />discussed. <br />COUNCILMAN HERKNER STATED HE HAD SUGGESTED MEETING WITH LOCAL CONTRACTORS not in the <br />l i''di! <br />spirit of criticism, but that he was still of the opinion that such a meeting was <br />worth while and might result in obtaining some very practical suggestions. <br />WEED ABATEMENT PROGRAM. Councilman <br />Herkner stated his dissatisfaction of the weed <br />- I ' abatement program. Cheif Lodi advised the contractor had just commenced the <br />I <br />second discing which would in his opinion result in a more satisfatory showing• <br />
