In the discussion which followed it was the concensus of opinion that some preliminary opinions could be obtained before expending the amount specified and City Manager Rolison was directed to attempt to get information before ordering plans and specifications and report back at the next meeting. CITY ENGINEER JAIN REPORTED ON THE PROPOSED CREEK COVERING OF FRANKLIN STREET. The City Engineer advised a portion of creek covering under construction for Pair. Weltner was costing approximately X160 per lineal foot whereas a retaining wall would cost $60 per foot. The City now owns approximately 170 feet of frontage between Fr4nklin i Street and the Weltner property and the cost to the City for its share of the culvert if the remaining property owners on both sides of the creek would agree to join in on such a project would be $15,000 if done on a cash contract. An assessment dis- trict would cost from 15o to 20% additional. Councilman Royer and Jones will con- tact the property owners in the area and report back at the next meeting. Council- man Morgan, as evidence of good faith on the part of the City, moved that the Council go on record that they were ready to go ahead with this project if the property owners would join with the City, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. This motion does not obligate the City to any more than an expression of an opinion c by the Council. PUBLIC HEARING - OAK -REESE -JOHNSON IMPROVEMENTS. Affidavits of posting, publication and mailing of notices of hearing ordered filed by the Mayor. The Mayor announced this was the time for public hearing on the Oak -Reese -Johnson Improvements. One written protest received from Mr. Walter E. Remmer's letter was read by the Clerk in which he protested to the amount of the assessment, he being of the opinion that too much frontage of his property was included. MRS. ELIZABETH DVAGONY, MR. ALVIN SHURPiER, MR. K. PETERSON, AND MR. E. ANDREOZZI protestedi verbally, the latter stating'that the contractor had broken his sewer clean-out. It was decided that the Sewer Department would replace the piece broken. On motion of Councilman Royer, seconded by Councilman Herkner the hearing was duly and regula continued to the meeting of January 7th to enable engineers to check further into Mr. Remmers claim. PUBLIC HEARING ANNEXATION OF UPLAND ROAD TERRITORY. Affidavit of mailing and publication I was ordered filed by the Mayor. The Mayor announced this was time devoted to any protestant to be heard and there being none the hearing was ordered closed. Council- man Morgan moved introduction of ordinance, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. REPORT ON BID OPENING FOR LADDER TRUCK AND SQUAD TRUCK, FIRE DEPARTMENT. Fire Chief Lodi reported on bid opening and recommended as follows: Item #2 - 500 GPM (Squad) Engine Received 5 bids in the following order: Coast Manufacturers Van Pelt Company (2 bids) 1st Bid Curtis & Sons (Maxim)2nd Bid Yankee Body (Seagrave) $15,024.61 with tax 15,277.98 with tax 15,957.79 with tax 18,488.50 with tax 17,231.97 with tax Low bidder, Coast Manufacturers, had complied with the Redwood City specifications and Chief Lodi recommended that this firm be awarded the contract for this item.
