i' 11:1 [” 462 the County Civil Defense Planning Board meeting which was held on February 7th was read and attention was called to the forthcoming test which will be held on Wednes- day, February 20th. Councilman Granger spoke of his concern over the apparent lack of interest and wondering what could be done to reactivate the Advisory Board which has not met for some time. He suggested something be done to create interest and that at least one meeting per month, evening meeting if•possible to be held to which the Advisory Board be requested to attend. PUBLIC HEARING, USED CAR LOT, CARDINAL MOTORS, 2526 E1 Camino Real. An affidavit of publication ordered filed. Police and Fire Department reports offer no objections to the used car lot. There being no protests Councilman Spillers moved that the permit be issued, subject to filing of filing of N52,000 bond as required by the ordinance, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. PUBLIC HEARING, ALAMEDA IMPROVEMENTS. The Mayor announced that this was the time to which the hearing had been continued and the City Clerk read off the list of cor- rections in individual assessments all of which were reduced with the exception of No's 7, 8, and 11, which were increased in order to correct error in original spread l'Tritten protests were read, received from the following: Alvina and Joe Kalpakoff, 11 Acacia Lane Henrietta A. and Robert F. Mac Donald, 175 Alameda de las Pulgas. Communications filed by 14 residents of Acacia Lane. Mr. Robert Mac Donald appeared and commented on alleged damage to his house caused by dust during construction of the project necessitating a paint job. After discus- sion Councilman Granger moved that the City Clerk write the contractor requesting hin to take necessary steps to afford some relief to Mr. Mac Donald, seconded by Council- man Herkner, and carried. Mr. Mac Donald withdrew all of his protests with the exception to the alleged damage referred to the above. Mr. Joe Kalpakoff stated his opinion was that there had not been enough area included in the district to cover the cost of storm drains. Mr. Theodore Laitinen, Acacia Lane, resident spoke at great length regarding the cost of the assessment and the area included within the district. Mr. R. 0. Maynard, 6•Acacia Lane, also objected to the size of the area included in district. Councilman Spillers moved that protests be overruled, seconded by Coun- cilman Morgan. Mr. Robert Mac Donald asked if it would not be possible hereafter for City Engineer Jain to spread the proposed assessment so that property owners might know the approx- imate cost to each individual owner. When it was explained that this would entail expenditure of additional funds Mr. Mac Donald was of the opinion that property owners would be willing to assume this extra cost. The original motion was with- drawn with the consent of the second and Councilman Morgan then moved that City Attorney Currie bring in a resolution prepared along the lines mentioned above, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. One additional written protest from Mr. and Mrs. Emil Seeger, 181 Alameda de las Pulgas, was read in which claim for additional damage was included. In his opinion the City should have paid greater proportion of the cost inasmuch as the Alameda is carrying greatly increased traffic. Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Council- man Spillers, the Clerk was directed to notify Mr. L. C. Smith of this claim similar to the one noted above.
