Do <br />City Clerk <br />Minutes of Regular Meeting <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />September 6, 1955 - 8:oo P. M. <br />I1 Devotional was lead by Reverand Charles M. Lemmex, Pastor of the Grace Bible Church. <br />` Councilman Granger offered RESOLUTION NO. 1918 APPOINTING CITY ASSESSOR BROPHY CLERK PROwTEM <br />FOR THIS ONE COUNCIL MEETING and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Stout and <br />carried on roll call, Councilman Spillers noted absent. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present.: Councilman Carl A. Britschgi, Floyd D. Granger, <br />Paul Jones William H. Royer, Hiram S. Stout, Mayor Sidney D. Herkner and Clerk Pro -Tem <br />John J. Brophy. Councilman Robert.V. Spillers was noted absent. Also present were <br />City Manager E. A. Rolison, City Attorney C. B. Currie, Water Superintendent H. L. Winter, <br />City Collector Paul E. Perrin, Police Chief Stanley D. Wood, Senior Civil Engineer <br />Melvin I. Moen, Building Inspector S. H. Kreiss and Police Captain William Faulstich. <br />k <br />Councilman Jones moved approval of minutes of the regular meeting of August 15th and the <br />adjourned meetings of August 22nd and 29th, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, Mayor <br />Herkner stated that he had noted a small correction and had so notified the office of <br />the City Clerk. Motion carried. <br />PUBLIC HEARING, APPLICATION PETER McTEAGUE TO REZONE LOTS 12 AND 13, BLOCK 6, WOODACRES <br />KNOLLS, R-3 TO C -1-H. The Planning Commission had recommended deial. (Corner Alameda <br />de las Pulgas.and Woodside Road.) Affidavit of publication was ordered filed. -The <br />I' <br />Clerk read a letter of protest from Dr. and Mrs. Shearman M. Henri, 211i.5 Woodside Road, <br />wherin they protested any additional.attempts of nearby lot owner for permission to <br />rezone for commercial purposes. They asked that the Council uphold the Planning <br />Commission's denial of further commercial rezoning slong Woodside Road. <br />t ' <br />In answer to the question of Councilman Royer, City Attorney Currie stated that this <br />hearing was not the issue of a service station but a rezoning hearing only. Mr. Gerald <br />Wagstaffe, Attorney representing the applicant,.restated the offer that they had made to <br />the Planning Commission wherein they would build a service station and only a service <br />station if this property were rezoned to C -1-H. Insofar as the location is concerned, <br />the Standard Oil Company would like to go beyond anything that they have in stations at <br />the present time and build a rustic type station to go with the surrounding property. <br />_.. Mr. Wagstaff asked the Council to allow a short period of time to present the new type <br />�F of architectural design to the Planning Commission and to the people in the area. In <br />answer to statement of Mr. Vera Eskin.and.question of Councilman Granger, Mayor Herkner <br />replied that if the property were rezoned it would have to be followed through with a <br />Use Permit. <br />AfterfUrther discussion and at the request of the people in the audience, it was decided <br />to proceed with the Public Hearing. The following people were protesting the rezoning: <br />Mr. James Wills, 2723 Delaware; Mr. Lobre: Louise Reynolds: Mr. Alice Rankine, 1931 <br />Woodside Road. Councilman Britschgi stated that the people who own the surrounding <br />property and petitioned to come into the City of Redwood City for protection should be <br />given consideration, for it was his opinion that these same people were afraid that the <br />area was getting away from them and they came into the City.for protection. He stated <br />
