Britschgi., Floyd D. Granger, Paul Jones, William H. Royer, Robert V. Spillers,
Mayor Sidney D. Herkm r and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were City Auditor -Assessor
s
John J. Brophy, City Collector Paul E. Perrin, Sam Knight and J. Shields of the Assessor's
office.
Affidavit of publication of notice to taxpayers was ordered filed.
There were no written protests.
Mr. Solomon, representing the S. H. Frank's Tannery, appeared in person to protest the in-
crease in assessed valuation from 0800 to $52,000 per acre. Mr. Solomon stated that inasmuch -
as the State would soon take considerable of his land for freeway purposes, the time was not
right for reassessing. City Assessor Brophy explained he had reassessed all property on the
east side of Bayshore in like amount, stating further that the property had not been brought
up to date for several years.
Mr. Solomon claimed that the Blomquist property was filled land while much of the tannery
property was part-time under water. It developed that the assessor's method of assessing
resulted in a lower figure than would have been the case if he had assessed the higher land
on a true value basis.
After further discussion, Councilman Spillers moved all protests be overruled, seconded by
Councilman Britschgi and carried. City Clerk was directed to write•a letter to Mr. Solomon
explaining the method of equalizing of assessments, particularly the property east of Bay-
shcr e.
Councilman Granger moved that the record indicate that the City Council was vitally inter-
ested in industrial development within the City, seconded by Councilman Royer. This was in
answer to Mr. Solomon's statement that apparently the City was not interested in keeping
industry in the City. Motion carried.
