On the question, Mayor Herkner asked Mr. Leahy if <br />any boats would be allowed to moor in this area. Mr. Leahyreplied that no boats <br />would be allowed to moor there. City Manager Rolison stated that better plans <br />would have to be made before he could obtain the proper bids. City Engineer Jain <br />stated that he would like to study the proposed plans and talk to the contractor <br />who drew up the original estimates for the Sportsmen's Club. This was followed <br />by a short discussion after which the motion carried. <br />PETITION FOR STREET IMPROVEMENTS, MANZANITA, LAUREL AND HILTON STREETS, City Engineer <br />Jain, in his letter, stated that they had received a petition from property owners <br />requesting full street improvements on Manzanita Street from Stambaugh Street to <br />Hilton Street, Laurel Street from Stambaugh Street to Hilton Street, and Hilton <br />Street ,from.Laurel Street to a point half way between Laurel Street and Spruce Street. <br />He has received a resolution of the board of Trustees of the Redwood City Elementary <br />School District, who own 360 feet of frontage on the southeasterly side of Laurel <br />Street and 157 feet on the northeasterly side of Hilton Street, approving the <br />assessment district and agreeing to be assessed for this work. <br />It is his.recommendation that they be authorized to prepare plans and specifications <br />for this improvement project, and that the City Auditor be authorized to advance funds <br />for the engineering costs from the General Fund, these costs to be reimbursed by the <br />assessment district. Councilman Stout moved that the report be accepted and the money <br />advanced, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. <br />NOMINATION OF SPECIAL STULSAFT PARK COMMITTEE. <br />Councilman Jones nominated Orval Graves, Y.M.C.A. <br />Dick Arimoto, Rotary Club. <br />Councilman Granger nominated Irving Gold, Park and Recreation Commissioner <br />Vera Eskin, representing area in which the park <br />is located. <br />Councilman Stout nominated Louis B. Dematteis, Superior Judge, Robert M. <br />Beyshore, Westwood Community Club. <br />u <br />Councilman Royer asked that his nominations be held up one week. <br />Mayor Herkner nominated Ferris Miles, War Memorial Committee, Ron Fields, one <br />of the improvement clubs. <br />Mayor Herkner held the nominations over for two weeks since both Councilmen Britschi <br />and Spillers were away and Councilman Royer had asked for a delay in his nominations. <br />RESIGNATION OF POLICE CHIEF STANLEY D. WOOD. The City Manager submitted a letter to the <br />Council in which he stated that he was in receipt of the resignation of Police Chief <br />Stanley D. Wood, effective immediately, which after 33 years of faithful service is <br />deeply regretted. Since it is necessary that this important position be filled as <br />soon as possible, he appointed Captain William Faulstich as Acting Police Chief, <br />pending permanent filling of this position at an early date. <br />Mayor Herkner stated that the Council regrets the resignation of Chief Woods, but <br />they would accept it with recognizance. Councilman Jones offered RESOLUTION 1939 <br />MEMORALIZING POLICE CHIEF WOOD FOR HIS LONG AND FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried on <br />roll call, Councilmen Britschgi and Spillers being noted absent. <br />William Faulstich was acknowledged by the Council and congrEtulations were extended <br />to him on his new job. <br />■ <br />rI <br />�l� <br />
