146 --- -- _ W J <br />The estimate of the consulting engineer on this project was $153,830 based on previous contracts in <br />Parking Lot VII and resonable anticipated increases since that time. Although the low bid of Ascar <br />Holmes is approximately 22% over the consulting engineer's estimate, it is the recommendation of the City <br />Engineer that the contract be awarded to Oscar Holmes as per his bid, after a consultation with the con- <br />tractor, Attorney and City Manager. <br />Councilman Stout offered RESOLUTION 2033 AWARDING THE, CONTRACT TO OSCAR HOLMES and moved its adoption, <br />seconded by Councilman Herkner. Tom Tuite, Jr. raised the question of what was going to happen to the <br />Marshall parking lot.. This was followed by discussion after which the motion carried on roll call with <br />Councilmen Britschgi and Spillers being noted absent. The City Manager was asked to prepare a financial <br />statement on expenditures of the parking lots. 9 <br />ACCEPTANCE HIGHLANDS TERRITORY NO. 2 SOUR JOB, OAKLAND SE17ER CONSTRUCTION CO. City Attorney Currie stated IiII <br />that he would prefer that this not be accepted unti;. the apsessment spread is ready. If the job is <br />accepted now, then there wouldn't be any comeback if there were any complaints at the time of the public <br />hearing for acceptance by the property owners. Councilman Stout moved to carry this on the agenda for <br />one week, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. . <br />COMMUNICATION 0. C. JONES REGARDING ANTICIPATED DATE CF COMPLETION, PARKING LOT NO. VII The Clerk read the <br />following letter:: <br />Dear Sir: <br />We are in receipt of your letter dated April 26, 1956, requesting statement as to <br />anticipated date of completion for subject job. <br />This office is well aware of the liquidated damage clause of our contract and every <br />effort will be made to bring the job to a rapid conclusion. Ha7ever3 as stated in my letter <br />to the Engineering Department on December 213.1955, this office feels the manner in which <br />working days were charged on this particular job was objectionable and hardly consistent <br />lith the intent of the specifications or with other State and City jobs running simultane- <br />-ously.-_This,"_coupled with -other factors for'whloh this Company was -not responsible, resulted <br />.in,a seemingly prolonged operation. Nevertheless, it is our sincere intent to work as R-? <br />expeditiously as possible and give your city a structurally sound parking lot by May 25, 4 <br />1956. <br />Very truly yours, <br />0. C. Jones giving them the particulars <br />as to the number of men they have had working onthe job in the past week or so. This was followed <br />by discussion after which Councilman Herkner changed the motion to have the City Clerk tivrite the letter <br />stating the particulars ( to be obtained from the City Engineer), seconded by Councilman Stout. Council- <br />man Granger was of the opinion that a copy of this letter should be sent to the bonding,Company. The <br />motion carried. <br />City Engineer Jain stated that the specifications state that a superintendent will be on the job at all <br />times to.consult with oub engineers, and to date this has not been the case. Mayor Royer suggested that <br />this should be care of in the letter to the contractor. Councilman Stout moved that a copy of p_.1 <br />this letter be mailed to* the Bonding Company, seconded by Councilman Weiss. The motion carried on roll r_ <br />call with Councilman Herkner and Mayor Royer voting No and Councilmen Britschgi and Spillers being noted <br />absent. <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION APPROVE RE,D1700D CITY MERCHANTS SOFTBALL.TEPM PROPOSAL TO ERECT SMALL CONCESSION <br />,1. 4 <br />STAND AT HAWES PARK DIAMOND. The proposed size of the concession stand is approximately 8' x 101. The <br />Commission wish to go on record as approving this project, provided: <br />(1) any necessary legal, financial, and health arrangements are worked out to the satisfaction of the <br />City Council and City Manager. <br />(2) the building to be erected obtains proper city clearance and that it be of attractive appearance <br />and in conformance with its surroundings. <br />(3) a proper maintenance.and clean-up program be worked out with the Park and Recreation Superintendents. <br />
