The motion carried on roll call. Councilman Stout had stated that the only <br />reason he was going along with this project and including Glenwood Avenue was in order to get the information <br />before the public. <br />City Engineer Jain stated that he had figures available on the proposed changes. He stated that by setting <br />the bids and having the Glenwood and Canyon Road section set up as separate items, they could possibly get <br />the work done in Glenwood and Canyon Road for an estimated figure of $233.00 per lot and about $403.00 per <br />lot would be the cost to the rest of the area. The City Attorney,stated that there will be two public hearin <br />one on June 4th and,the other approximately July 2nd. <br />DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS REQUEST CANCELLATION OF TAXES ON THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF 1955-56 TAXES .ON PROPERTY PURE <br />CHASED FROM NATIONAL MOTOR BEARING CO., INC. Councilman Herkner moved approval of the request, seconded by <br />Councilman Granger and carried. , <br />JACK GREENBACK APPLICATION FOR DANCE PERMIT, JUNE lst, AT THE AMERICAN LEGION HALL. There was a discussion as to <br />why these dance permits must come before the Council. The Attorney read the ordinance which stated that <br />all persons other than Churches, Lodges and Civic Organizations, etc. were required to obtain Council per- <br />mission. The Police Department recommended the hours of 8:00 P. M. to 12:00 midnight. Councilman Spillers <br />moved that the permit be granted, the dance to be held during the hours recommended by the Police Department, <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />SPECIAL LUNCHEON NOTICE: WORLD TRADE WEEK LUNCHEION, HONORING THE PORT OF REDWOOD CITY AT THE PORT, MAY 23rd. <br />All the Council would attend with the exception of Councilman Britschgi. <br />COMMUNICATION LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES REGARDING MAYOR1S AND COUNCILMEN'S INSTITUTE, MONTEREY, MAY 24 & 25, <br />1956s, The Mayor announced that each Councilman would take care of his own reservation the letter was filed. <br />BILL FOR SERVICE FLAG PLACQUE. Councilman Britschgi offered RESOLUTION 2039 TRANSFERRING x$195.70 FROM UNBUDGETED <br />RESERVE TO PAY FOR THE PLACQUE and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried on roll <br />call., <br />001, UNICATION, COUNTY .OF SAN MATEO REQUEST REGARDING FORMATION OF A SOUTH COUNTY GARBAGE AND REFUSE DISPOSAL <br />DISTRICT. The County Manager stated in his letter that preliminary legal steps necessary to the formation <br />of a South County Garbage and Refuse Disposal District have been taken, and the hearing on the resolution <br />for formation of the district is .scheduled for 2:00 P. M. on Tuesday, May 22nd. He asked to have official <br />reaction to the formation of this Aistrict in accordance with the plans previously discussed with the Council <br />representatives. This was followed'by discussion in which City Attorney Currie suggested that the Council <br />have someone attend the meeting. Councilman Granger moved that the City reafirm their stand of having no <br />objections and the City Clerk attend the, meeting. This was followed by discussion after which Councilman <br />Granger restated his motion that the ,City was in favor of the formation of the district, the Clerk to attend <br />the meeting and tell them of the City's thinking in the matter. This was followed by more discussion. <br />Councilman Herkner seconded the motion. Councilman Granger included in his motion to have the City Manager <br />also attend the meeting. Councilman Granger substituted the City Attorney to attend the meeting with the <br />City Manager rather than the Clerk. The motion carried. <br />Councilman Britschgi stated that there was a big fire at the Belmont dumps and the City of Redwood City also had <br />a big fire going. He was of the opinion that something should be done about all the burning. City Manager <br />Rolison reported that come October 1st there will be legislation topping the burning. This was followed by <br />discussion after which Councilman Britschgi moved that they stop burning at the dumps effective immediately, <br />seconded -by Councilman Stout. This was followed by discussion in regard to what was going to be done with <br />the rubbish. The motion lost 'on roll call with Councilmen Britschgi and Stout voting Yes and Councilmen <br />Granger, Herkner, Spillers, Weiss and Mayor Royer voting NO. <br />
