Councilman Weiss was of the opinion that <br />the history of this request should be included in this motion stating the whereas's and the wherefore'se <br />He stated that he had talked to Mrs Booker and he recommended this suggestion* The motion carried. <br />I <br />Councilman Stout reported on the dedication of the benches to the City by the Westwood Terrace Improvement <br />Club which took place at the Shell Cil Station at Roosevelt and Upton Streets on September 29the - <br />Councilman Granger spoke about the proposed salary increase for department heads. He stated that he read <br />in the paper about the $3900 increase for the Building Inspector and the difference in the larger amounts <br />for other department heads. He stated that he wanted the record to show that he is not too happy with <br />method used by the Council in reaching the decision. He further stated that the paper said'that the <br />department heads did not receive the 12 step increase that the other -employees received. In fairness <br />to the public, he wanted to tell them that the department heads did receive the 14 step increase <br />and this proposed increase was in additicn.to,the previous increase. Councilman Granger spoke further <br />on this topic and stated his full thinking on the matter. He did not believe that the Council should <br />take any action on this because they did not know what they were doings. He belieQes that some of the <br />salary increases were based on the person and not the job* Gouncil.man Granger was of the opinion that <br />the department heads not effected by the Charter should be put on a salary range system like the other <br />employees* The Mayor stated that if there were no objections he would set this for another study <br />meeting and he further stated that he did not bdlieve the Councilmen attending the study meeting had <br />based their findings on the proposed salaries on personaltiese <br />The Redwood City Firemen's Association invited the Council and their wives to their annual ball to be held <br />on October 13, 1956 at the American Legion Hall in Redwood City* <br />Councilman Granger wanted to know when the State Civilian Defense was going to come to Redwood Citye He <br />asked that this be followed up* <br />Councilman Herkner stated that some time ago service pins were given to the employees* Since that time there <br />hasn't been any oeremorq• to speak of* Councilman Herkner suggested that every 3 or 6 months that the <br />employees be aced to appear before the Council for awarding of their service pins* He was of the <br />opinion that this should be done for all those who have received pins since the original presentation <br />by the Mayor in 1955. <br />Councilman Weiss stated that the Committee on the Dumbarton Fair Oaks Fire Protection is not inactive* <br />He received a report from the Board of Fire -Underwriters stating that they were going to hold a meeting <br />and he would make a more complete report* <br />Claims #20371 through #20515, totaling $1460919.87,•were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Britschgi, <br />seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried* . <br />Councilman Spillers moved that the meeting be adjourned to Monday, October 8th, seconded by Councilman <br />Britschgi and carried, meeting adjourned, 10:12 P.
