408 Councilman Weiss asked the City Engineer to check into the matter of the catch basin. RESOLUTION GRANTING VARIANCES ON FRO14T SET -BACKS IN FARM HILLS SUBDIVISION. The City Attorney read the title of the resolution. Councilman Spillers offered RE90LUTION 2189 GRANTING VARIANCES FROM CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF THE ZONING ORDINANCE CF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Weymouth. Councilman Weiss read a prepared statement wherein he questioned whether the provisions of Section 20 of the Zoning Ordinance were being complied with, especially sub section 5. Councilman Weiss referred to the people on Hampton Avenue who were cited by the Planning Commission �1 for certain violations which may have been in the same category as in this case. He wanted to make certain that the people on Hampton Avenue are given equal consideration when their cases are deter- mined. The City Attorney stated the matter of Hamptoon Avenue was not brought before the Council but was turned over to a committee named by the Planning Commission. This committee has met and U settled the matter. The motion carried on roll call. INTRODUCE ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING ^.9,597.66 FROM STUISAFT PARK FUND FOR PLANS, SPECIFICATIONS, CONSTRUCTION, ETC. OF PHASE NO. 1. The Clerk read the title of the ordinance. Councilman Spillers offered introduction of the ordinance, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. RESOLUTION, BY AREA RAPID TRANSIT. The Clerk read the title of the resolution. Councilman Herkner • offered RESOLTION 2190 MAKING CERTAIN RECOMMENDATIONS IN REGARD TO LEGISLATION ESTABLISHING THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA RAPID TRANSIT DISTRICT and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried on roll call. INTRODUCTION OF CRDINANCE TRANSFERRING $1,835.46 FROM CAPITAL PROJECT FUND TO COVER COST OF BLEACHERS AT COMMUNITY PARK. The City Attorney read the title of the ordinance. Councilman Spillers offered the introduction of the ordinance, seconded by Councilman Granger. Councilman Weiss read a prepared ' statement in which he stated that when the budget for the current fiscal year was prepared and adopted u this item could well have been provided for. The need now is no more urgent then it was at that time, and should therefor be held in abeyance for consideration in preparation of the budget for the next fiscal year. The statement went into detail on his thinking in the matter. Councilman Granger stated that he seconded the motion, not because he like this, but because it was decided that this was an emergency. He thought these items should be considered at budget time. This was followed by discussion after which the motion carried on roll call with Councilmen Herkner and Weiss voting NO. UNION OIL COMPANY REQUEST WIDENING OF DRIVEWAY ON STATION AT EL CAMINO REAL AND BROADWAY FROM 29' to 381. Councilman Herkner diqualified himself from acting on this question as he felt he had some interest in this problem. The Clerk read the letter. The City Engineer recommended against this request, as driveway permit was issured to Union Oil Co. to move driveway south and a portion of the work was allowed to be done on condition that the other end would be reconstructed to standard curb and I sidewalk. All other service stations have been denied driveways wider then the 29' overall width allowed by ordinance. Councilman Weiss moved approval of the City Engineer's recommendation to deny the request, seconded by Councilman Stout. Councilman Spillers asked if the Traffic Committee had looked at this. Mr. Jain stated that this was not a matter for the Traffic Committee as it was going against an ordinance. P-4 This was followed by discussion after which the motion carried, Councilman Spillers voting NO. SHELL OIL COMPANY REQUEST ABANDONMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICE EASEMENT IN LOTS 1 & 2 , BLOCK 9, REDWOOD CITY TERRACE NO. 4. The City Attorney recommended that this matter be referred to the Planning Commission. Councilman Spillers moved to refer this to the Planning Commission on the recommendation of •the City Attorney, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried.
